Great pod guys. Lots of good points.
To the point of needing to find a coach who has a proven track record of success to come here, which is arguably the best mid major job in the country right now, I completely agree.
To your point of going after top mid major coaches and paying them what we would’ve paid Roussell had he stayed also agree. Carly from Fairfield would be an incredible hire but I don’t see that happening. If we can’t get the elite mid major coaches to come here, then we need to find someone with a proven track record of success but pay them less of a salary and perhaps invest that more in payroll budget until the coaches proves him or herself more.
To the thought of bringing ECU coach, Kim McNeil. While nice to have the idea of a UR alum be a successful coach here, she doesn’t have the track record of success you guys alluded to earlier. She has a 51.7% record at ECU and 54.5% overall record. Reminds me of another basketball coach at UR with a similar record and not exactly someone we’re happy with what he’s producing.
Lol, I assume I was the guy that “ripped Tom on the Patriot league” but I actually agree with Porter in this case that it’s certainly worth looking at the best D3 head coaches but that’s only if our top options fall through. It’s riskier but could be worth that risk. Great coaches all have to start somewhere and it might be worth that gamble because like Porter said we could pay them a lot less than we would a Roussell when they first join and put the rest of the money in NIL.
Nancy Lieberman as a wild card is also a great thought. Doubt she would want to do it and she doesn’t have any college head coaching experience but she is a winner, would probably be one heck of a recruiter, and can see her being successful.

Great line Tom, when Porter said he tried to call Coach Roussell after he heard the news.
Good episode. Definitely wasn’t impressed with the Tweeted list of candidates, so hopefully that was fluff and not a true inside scoop. We are going to find out really quickly if UR has a quality AD or not. The timing of this change is challenging for any AD and I simply have little faith that this hire is going to check all the boxes. I don’t think UR will be able to get a no doubt type coach like the one from Fairfield. If they do then Richmond has really turned the corner. But I think UR needed a couple more years from Roussell to really put the program on the map, which is why this change is a major setback. I have a sinking feeling that the choice will be a conservative hire thinking that the momentum that started to build will be easy to maintain. Time will tell.

How about the Columbia coach? But I think Radice will go with Roussell but would
like to consider her if not. Remember Roussell brought almost his entire staff when
he came to Richmond.

Not a fan of the Columbia coach based only on her postgame comments when we beat them where she ripped her team and in particular her star player. I just don’t like that style of public call out, whether it was real, motivational or both. Roussell seemed to have the proper balance where that kind of thing was not needed.
I remember that. Strike my prior comment saying I coukd support that choice.
