Future Guests on Spiders Sound Off

Thanks for your hard work guys and getting all the guests you’ve had on the pod. Has been a great listen. I would say my personal top 3 I’d want to hear from, assuming they provide insightful information, are Hallock, Hardt, and Queally. Don’t know if they would do it or not. Worth asking. If they come on, my only request is to please ask them tough but fair questions that we all want to know the answers to. Not saying it needs to be like an interrogation or disrespectful but questions like what are the goals of our basketball program? After tough seasons, what are the discussions like in reviewing what happened and addressing them? What measures are we taking in place to ensure that we can be at the top of the conference? What resources are we dedicated towards NIL? Why have our schedules not been good the past few years?

Don’t need to ask questions like why Mooney isn’t fired for poor performance the recent years or why we ducked out of playing JMU (although that’s what we really want to know)

If they’re just going to come on and give some canned response about being “competitive” and then talk about excuses like how we’re being “materially outspent” or “its so hard to schedule good games as a mid majors” then honestly it’s better they don’t do the interviews because it’s just going to make it look worse for them and probably just annoy many of us spider fans even more.

Better for them to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I will attempt to get one of them on the pod by the time we tip off next year. My talk track would vary from person to person. Hardt would be the guy I asked about goals for the programs.

With Queally, he is a huge fan of Spider Athletics, and huge supporter of them, so being respectful of that, I might press him on future investments in analytics (my agenda).

Hallock would be my 3rd choice because I feel like he would be pretty high level on vision for UR in general and less concerned about an individual program.

I appreciate that and agree for the most part. My only slight disagreement, is I would say Queally’s involvement has been more than just a fan since he clearly has an influence with the direction of our athletics. So I’d argue that it is certainly fair game to ask him those similar questions to Hardt because he is essentially AD #2.

As far as Hallock goes, I think you guys can break out and ask broader questions pertaining to the university. I know this is a basketball podcast, but I think most listeners - who are UR alums - would like that reprieve to learn about the direction our university is going especially in the off season over the summer. You can certainly have more of a basketball/athletics spin to it like how basketball fits in with the university’s mission or the impact athletics can have with our community and the school, both men’s and women’s. Not intended to “grill” Hallock as it might be to Hardt with a little bit tougher questions, but it’s nice to hear that our university cares about sports and some insight (like the direct school funding with house settlement) would be really appreciated.

I appreciate the positive spin on your podcast. But when broadcasters for our games are even
questioning our defensive schemes, which us fans have been saying, can we discuss more some
of what we continue to do poorly. Mooney knows we are better offensively at a faster pace, but
we cannot achieve that if our defense is porous and we rebound poorly. CM needs to get off the stubborn
wagon and change his defensive strategy.
