Roster Construction in the Portal Area

Interesting, if you start here in the link below, he is talking about looking for multiple skill areas vs what we did - offensive scoring skill mostly in the portal. Seems obvious to me and Evan, but not Mooney.

I can't see either of those videos. is that a problem on my end?
Try hitting the "watch on youtube" on the lower right, and see if it opens in another tab, or maybe on youtube if on your phone. When I just tried to watch it in this thread it kept starting and stopping.

With this analysis, the whole concept of "team" is thrown out of the window. How many times did we have a really good defender or a good "glue" player, who wasn't a star, but was a key cog in the wheel? How many times did we take a player and develop him into a very good player? All of this is lost.

Personally I wasn’t impressed with the video. Of course 80% of the key to success is the players you have on the team. It also is common sense that if a coach has multi-dimensional players then he/she is able to make many more adjustments and such a player is more valuable. It also is common sense that since the recruiting period is compressed, one is going to need an efficient way to evaluate a high number of players and analytics are a great tool for this purpose.

The bad news is it seems that all this common sense is not present in the current leadership team.

They actually fired a coach.
That coach had a .573 winning % while at SLU over 8 years with 4 20-win seasons. (i.e. better than Moon's winning % at UR)
His last 3 years he won 23, 21 and 13 games.
After the 13 win season? Gone.

They actually care. Richmond does not care.

Like SLU's model, we need to bring in two more athletic do everything big guard/wings in the 6'4 to 6'7 range.

A high scoring guard is really what UR needs bc it fits next to AA and now Kaiser. Would think a POY has bigger sights but u never know.

Hopefully we splash all the NIL on the starters and let other guys prove themselves.

We need a good sized, athletic, scoring guard. A player in the mold of Curtis Blair, Gonzo, Darien Brothers, Rodney Rice Sr, etc. And another wing. A big forward, and a center of course. We always say big men are hard to get - b/c the p5 schools are always in need too. As we have seen online, the cost of big men is really astronomical. This is where moon needs to think outside the box - and maybe he is since we are looking at the Rutgers big who sounds more like a rim runner than a classic moon ball 5. Like SLU, I just want more 6'3 to 6'7 guys that can play - attack the basket and play D.

Kennedy would be a good get. He can score but does some other stuff too! Not great defensively, but also don't think he is as bad as some of last years portal group!
