Robins Center experience

Last year they promoted Wawa 3 pointers with cards worth $ or freebies at Wawa. This year Wawa three is nothing but a catch word over the PA system. No giveaway on 3’s this year.
When they can't make 3s there's no giveaway so you really promote it as in years past. This year's non giveaway is a good sign that we'll make 3s. Marketing 101. Lol

Went to a President Hallock speaking event last night at the Dewey Gottwald Center. One of the topics he touched on during the interview was the 10-year plan for campus building and renovations. As we’ve heard before, upgrades to the Robins Center are in the works — improved entrances, concessions, and so on — and it sounds like the HVAC setup is quite outdated and needs a full (and costly) modernization.

Any mention of Pitt Field upgrades?

UR is great at doing facilities and facility upgrades. The upgrades that would make a bigger difference right now are on the personnel side of things and there they fall short.

The new campus master plan is pretty tame compared to the previous one. Extremely light on details and not very many specific projects proposed. They're not even publishing it to the general public – only members of the UR community can access it on the website:

I don't know if they're being cautious because of the potential financial environment over the near-term or what, but the envisioned projects are pretty limited. There's a big focus on removing cars from the core of campus to improve the pedestrian experience and accessibility, which was in the previous plan but hasn't gotten done yet, and then otherwise it's mostly upgrades to existing buildings (the RC is mentioned, but no specifics). The only actually new buildings in the plan are:

- A new administrative building at the Campus Dr entrance where the bus stop shelter is, which would free up space in other buildings (Commons, Weinstein Hall, and Richmond/Puryear/Maryland or whatever they're called now) for academic and student-focused uses.

- A new academic building located on either the small parking lot between Gottwald and the Deanery, out in the woods between D-Hall and the Greek Theatre, or on the parking lot next to Ryland, er, the Humanities Building.

- A small addition to the south end of the B-School to improve the entry and collaborative spaces.

- The remaining UFAs are planned to be replaced with higher-density apartments similar to Gateway Village, something that was also in the previous plan.

- There is general mention of the Fraternity Row area being "renewed and optimized" and the massings in the plan show a new building and a tray parking deck across the street from Robins Stadium, but there are no details on what that building might be.

- The RC, the Commons, Gottwald, D-Hall, and the Alumni Center are identified as key existing facilities for revitalization, but again, zero details on what that would include beyond deferred maintenance and feasibility studies.

Wow another tricycle race - how exciting
Darn, sorry I missed it. What is the student section count? At least they had 2 students there for the race.

Edit - Just saw on other thread about 30. Typical for this year. We will see what happens when Winter break is over and A10 games start.

My current theory is that they are holding back until the A10 schedule starts. They realize the OOC games are low draws and don’t want to waste the marketing dollars on a half empty building. Sounds good right?
I actually think that’s as good an explanation as any.

They’ve clearly mailed it in, it’s not just poor planning/execution.

We attended our first game of the season yesterday and the experience was definitely not up to UR standards even if we had won. Here's some of our observations:

--The metal detectors are most likely sadly necessary in today's world but the system is neither intuitive nor explained. It's going to be a real cluster at a game that is even more heavily attended or sold out. The ticket scanners should not be standing in the metal detector lines and holding up traffic.
--The rope lines need to be removed by halftime if not before. They make an already crowded concourse even more chaotic.
--I had read here about the lack of the tshirt cannon and the lack of the ball blaster but hoped those were just early-season omissions. They were not present yesterday and during the t-shirt toss I don't think they "tossed" more than five shirts, all in the same general area.

--The most frustrating thing is the fact that we are now 9 home games into the season for the men and 6 home games into the season for the women. And yet they somehow have not managed to post the promotions for either team on the promotions page?

If you click on either, it just says "Check back soon for a complete list of promotions during the 2025-26 men's basketball season" (or the counterpart for the women). This is inexcusable!!!

Excellent - Dress like a Spider halftime entertainment ... really hope and wish someone from Spider Athletics lurks and realize that real halftime shows do matter
