New coach - Alisa Kresge

Hmm. I beg to differ with Moon. I don't think he ever had much ambition. Sure, he prefers to win than lose, but that's about it. Even after the Sweet 16 run, he said something like if we're lucky enough to ever get here again...

I knew then in the back of my mind we were in for the shitshow we're in now...
I think you’re perhaps unintentionally agreeing here. The point is if you’re keeping a coach long term at a midmajor program, you better hope that you’re closer to a P5 performing program than a MM.

With CM, we made a long term commitment to a person who doesn’t seem to believe we can be successful consistently and at a high level. That’s not the kind of coach we should retain.

I thought the comment was Mooney was once ambitious, seeking more...my point was perhaps he never was as he didn't even think he could replicate the Sweet 16 run.

With the up and comers, you might be able to catch lightning in a bottle in the right circumstances.
Yep. We did that, and then we let it go even though it was happy. Now it's another gamble to get back to where we were. Maybe a better gamble than when we hired Roussell because we are a desired position, but a gamble none the less.

Remember in 90s when Lady Vols drew more than the men’s team. Even after
Pat Summitt, the winning culture continued. Right now we have that opportunity.
At this point we need to fire up the base with confidence and no drop off. Tall order and a little late after throwing away our best cards, but we still have a chance.

Seems like a really good hire. We got caught in a really bad situation with Aaron taking the UVA job out of the blue and late in the coaching search cycle.

So, while I normally would advocate for a more extensive search for a head coach, she looks like a really solid replacement for Roussell. Huge shoes to fill obviously.

Vermont has hired Maureen Magarity as their replacement for Kresge. Notably, she is the wife of Vermont men's coach John Becker.

Magarity was head coach at UNH for a decade, then had some success at Holy Cross from 2020–24 with two NCAAs and a WNIT in four seasons. Becker and Magarity got engaged in 2023, Magarity stepped down at Holy Cross at the end of that season, and they got married last year.
