Media talking points - Chris Mooney by the numbers

If we hadn't been so wedded to Chris Mooney, we could have gotten Ryan Odom or Phil Martelli, Jr.
I actually dont think these coaches would come to UR. They are serious coaches that want to work for a serious program and UR is not a serious program, sad to say.

Depends on what they want. After all, 20+ years at conservatively a million dollars a year and you can be mediocre and have almost no pressure? That’s appealing to many coaches I bet.

Maybe. VCU keeps getting good coaches because they see it as a great stepping stone to P6 schools. Every coach has moved to a P6 school. If they take the UR job it could be a dead end and next step is D2.

Oh I know, rn if you want to win championships and move up, we aren’t the place. We used to be.

But if you want a high paying, comfy job, we’re literally #1.

Aside from Beilein and Wainwright I don't know of any coach that moved up after leaving here. Tarrant never coached again, Dooley went to D3, and going back pre-Tarrant it appears none of the other coaches ever coached again after leaving here.

There was no program success pre-Tarrant. But if you consider that we’ve had exactly four coaches post-Tarrant and two of them went P5, that’s 50% hit rate. Hell, even CM could have moved on, just chose not to.

But for some reason people think we can’t possibly risk moving on. Super weird.

Bumped into a UR acquaintance yesterday, sports fan, asked him his thoughts on Moon. He was like give him another year but it was obvious he as a casual fan of UR and more of an overall sports fan, doesn't know Moon's true numbers. I told him some of these and he was like wow, not good. This thread is important. Keep telling people the numbers, they just don't know.

Thats the problem, too many casual fans because the program has sucked and not enough diehards to put pressure on the admin. How many VCU “acquaintances” would be casual fans? Almost zero. I can see why many UR alum from the past 15 years don’t care very much. Buffooney Mooney.

The vast majority of our fans are casual because what sane person would invest time into this moribund program. We actively encourage our fans to not be invested in the product rather to show up for cheap entertainment aimed at folks with young kids who can take them to the RC to run off some energy and really not spend that much time watching the game.

Quite frankly, our concourse is situation allows that to happen. It couldn't happen at VCU, because concourse is part of the arena. And at bigger programs, they are selling all sorts of great eats and merch in their concourse, but ours has child sized basketball hoops, big jenga games. Half the concourse looks like it belong at day care facility.

A few items of notes and comparison. I'm a lifelong Buccaneers fan--Mooney is Todd Bowles, or Bowles is Chris Mooney, however you want to slice it. Both are uninspiring, both hover around .500 and do nothing in the postseason. Both have been given another year for no reason whatsoever other than admin seem to want to save money. Super nice guys and players like playing for them, but they never get the best out of them.

Additionally our NIL spend level isn't going to make a difference. If I go and out buy the best and most expensive wagyu steaks and give it to a subpar chef, what do you expect the meal to come out as? Mediocre at best. I actually think that should be his new nickname going forward:

Coach Mooniocre. That settles it, I'm adapting that. Hope it catches on!

Would that be an adult or child day care center? I have only attended one game in the last 12 years or so,

I still like calling him the Wedding Planner.
