Maggie Doogan

Longtime Spider

New recruit
I know this is a men’s basketball board, but I’m not sure everyone realizes just how exceptional Maggie Doogan has been for our women’s team. She currently leads the A-10 in scoring, rebounding, and assists—an incredibly rare feat at any level (I’d be curious how often a player, men’s or women’s, has ever led a conference in all three categories).

She has been named A-10 Player or Co-Player of the Week five times in seven weeks and was also selected as the National Women’s Player of the Week once. Nationally, she ranks sixth in scoring at 23.3 points per game and second in three-pointers made. That 23.3 scoring average is the highest in program history, achieved against a very challenging non-conference schedule.

To put that into perspective, she scored 22 points against #4 Texas, 23 against #9 TCU, and 30 against Penn State.

She also has a legitimate chance to help lead the team to a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, an achievement that would account for half of all NCAA appearances in program history for the women’s program.

I highly recommend tuning in to some women’s basketball games. A player of this caliber doesn’t come around often, and in the NIL era, we may never see one like her again. And for what it’s worth, she’s not alone—there are at least two other all-conference-caliber players on the roster as well.

Will be great when we hang a banner in the Robins Center when the time comes.
