Game thread - ODU @RC Sat 12/6 at 12:30PM USA

Contributions from multiple players. This becomes an identity.

Waltz best game of year for him. Played aggressively as many of us hoped. Good moves and points under the baskets. Took his shots when there as opposed to making one more pass. No doubt he took his cues from this forum.😜

Daughtry great stuff all around. Can do a lot of things. I haven’t checked minutes distribution, but it seems he got more today. Rightly deserved. Can be a force to be reckoned with.

AP - good game on defense, rebounding, blocked shots. Unless his 3 pt pct picks up soon, he needs to abandon that.

I thought ODU looked pretty decent and had several quality players. A better team than their record.

Good win. Team effort.

only 19 minutes for JD but 17 points. Crazy.

Only 5 minutes for Tanner and hardly any time in the 2nd half

I haven't sat down and looked at season to date stats, but are 19 mins for Daughtry in line with other games, or is it picking up? However, if he continues to get double digit points close to mins played, that is impressive & warrants more court time unless Mooney plans on same mins for Daughtry and others basically what we've seen. Personally, I'd like to see a bit less substituting and certainly less frequency (example: pattern so far of first subs at 18 min mark).

If Tanner only got 5 mins today, Moon saw things he didn't like or maybe just way more positive with Daughtry. I believe Tanner has been getting more than 5 mins in most other games. Personally, I'd like to see Daughtry start.

Saw Walz giving him a pep talk on the bench during the 2nd half so obviously Tanner was being benched for a reason. I didn’t notice anything but obviously their were plenty of missed assignments so perhaps Tanner had more than his fair share.

yeah watching live don't remember anything specifically bad about Tanner's 1st half .. just don't remember him doing much

Only thing I noticed about Tanner is when he came back in the second half, first defensive set he slipped and let his man by him for an easy layup. Didn’t notice him other than that, but I can’t say he has ever stood out very much to me (in a positive or negative way).

Will be interested if there’s a starting lineup change but I doubt it. Clearly our best lineup has Daughtry on the court, so to me it would be pretty easy to slide Tanner out of the starting 5 and add Daughtry.

I haven’t seen anyone mention that Will Harper has been in street clothes the last two games. Anyone know what’s going on there? Only update I can remember on him is he was sick 2 weeks ago and missed the Gardner Webb game.

Do you expect that?
Game played out like I thought it would, but thought the final margin would be closer to 5 points. Glad the Spiders were able to rally and was very happy to see Walz with a number of layups and a baseline jump shot without the fade. Also made some strong defensive plays. He did the Golden complain to the ref while the other team is running the break though and that was an unwelcome sight.

As others mentioned, Daughtry played very well once again and brought energy to the team and home crowd.

As I mentioned in Aiden dedicated thread I really liked his contribution today and won’t repeat comments here.

AP had a good game and if he limits his 3 pt shooting to one miss, I will take it.

Lopez seemed to reallly be pressing today and of course Johnson and Thomas also came back to earth this game.

The great thing about this team is there are so many guys that can score the output really doesn’t change it is just where the points come from that is different.

Good luck to the guys on finals and we will see if they can keep it going next Saturday.

Go Spiders!

I noticed he was on the bench in street clothes when at the game. According to JOC’s game summary this afternoon in the RTD, Harper is still dealing with an illness.

I am giving Player of the Game to Mike Walz. Good effort and aggression all game. Battled on defense and for rebounds. Attacked the basket. Very good game.
Walz played how we want and need him to play every game. Strong interior play. He sought to use his physicality down low often resulting in a lot of easy buckets for us.

I also found it interesting that Tanner did not start the second half and got a total of 5 minutes of playing time after starting. It is going to be interesting how much longer he keeps the starting job. I could see Thomas moving into it giving us a 3 guard starting rotation or Daughtry starting and moving Lopez over to the 3 and going bigger. Maybe Tanner keeps the starting job, but really that would be in name only at this point, as his minutes are reflecting more of the 10th or 11th guy off the bench. I think we just have more talented guys pushing him for minutes right now.

This year starting is basically an honorary title. The bench is outscoring all the starters nearly every game. Really think that it is an all hands on deck year and all the guys that are playing will continue to play and there can be some minor adjustments game by game like what happened with Tanner in the ODU one.

everything's been covered, but just wanted to say that was an outstanding game for our entire frontcourt.
Walz and Daughtry were obviously strong and led the group in stats, but I thought AP was excellent. Beagle was good as usual. JRob gave us some great minutes in his short run too.
nice job, big fellas!

So this isn’t a hill I’m going to die on, but why in the world would you not start out with your strongest five? Literally makes no sense.
