And gave up 51 2nd half points!!!!!“Defensively we were great.”
Huh?
We were out scored by 32 points after opening up a massive lead. That’s not great defense.
Agree 100%. More often than not, staying balanced with comments is a good way to do it, but we are well past staying calm and saying the same phrases we always hear. For quite awhile, we needed to hear the ongoing losing bothers u. Give us something that says it bothers u and u r trying to fix it. Instead, we get to hear we were great on defense and how well Tyne played. In other words, get ready for 30+ minutes of Tyne next year, as if that will cure us.Like I get that he has made a career of trying to stay balanced publicly through ups and downs, and in general that's a good trait of a leader. But goddam dude, your team SUCKS OUT LOUD! You crapped the bed in a historically humiliating way. Show some goddamn emotion and even pretend to act like it bothers you in even the slightest way!
Man, it would be nice to hear Mooney say the word unacceptable just one time. Maybe "giving up 51 2nd half points is unacceptable" instead of "we were great defensively". Great??? And, have we heard "need to coach them better" even one time this year?
I think he actually is not capable of objectively analyzing this stuff. It is the same thing as being unable to identify who the starters should be or finding guys who fit his system.I admit I scratched my head at that one too. 30 pt lead blown we shot 64% overall and 60% from 3, but yet he thought we were great defensively.

Are you saying having those two double team a 6’9” player on an alley oop by design is not an amazing scheme?Nothing screams Mooney basketball more than having Tyne and Argabright under the basket (no body blocking out) when the Duquesne player leaped over them for the game winning tap in.
Yet positionally the Spiders were good all game according to the coach. Apparently the players just lost sight of the score and time remaining…..a triple run out at the shooter is emblematic of the UR defensive scheme.
Well, if the dukes scored the entire 40 minutes the way they did the first 14, they would have 29 points.I admit I scratched my head at that one too. 30 pt lead blown we shot 64% overall and 60% from 3, but yet he thought we were great defensively.
It's all part of MooneySys. He's been doing it regularly. So, yesterday this would be expected to see guards under the goal. And fittingly it blew up AGAIN. You'd think Moon would learn, but the results show differently.Nothing screams Mooney basketball more than having Tyne and Argabright under the basket (no body blocking out) when the Duquesne player leaped over them for the game winning tap in.
What is this about guards, plural? The only Spider I saw in the clip was Tyne. 2 Dukes and 1 Spider. JRob and AA were closer to foul line. It's all part of MooneySys. He's been doing it regularly. It’s one thing seeing tall guards shoot 3’s over our guards when Moon allows them to attempt to cover 3 point shooters. It’s another thing on switching and positioning short guards on tall forwards or centers near or under goal. That defies common sense, yet it’s one of the treasured tactics in Mooney’s basketball philosophy. And it’s a loser. In yesterday’s game, a GAME LOSER.What is this about guards, plural?
