Game Thread - @ DUQ Saturday 3/7 2pm ESPN+

Like I get that he has made a career of trying to stay balanced publicly through ups and downs, and in general that's a good trait of a leader. But goddam dude, your team SUCKS OUT LOUD! You crapped the bed in a historically humiliating way. Show some goddamn emotion and even pretend to act like it bothers you in even the slightest way!
Agree 100%. More often than not, staying balanced with comments is a good way to do it, but we are well past staying calm and saying the same phrases we always hear. For quite awhile, we needed to hear the ongoing losing bothers u. Give us something that says it bothers u and u r trying to fix it. Instead, we get to hear we were great on defense and how well Tyne played. In other words, get ready for 30+ minutes of Tyne next year, as if that will cure us.

Man, it would be nice to hear Mooney say the word unacceptable just one time. Maybe "giving up 51 2nd half points is unacceptable" instead of "we were great defensively". Great??? And, have we heard "need to coach them better" even one time this year?

I admit I scratched my head at that one too. 30 pt lead blown we shot 64% overall and 60% from 3, but yet he thought we were great defensively.

I think he actually is not capable of objectively analyzing this stuff. It is the same thing as being unable to identify who the starters should be or finding guys who fit his system.

If you don’t identify the problem, you’ll never be able to fix it.

First post in a long time on basketball site. UR grad who was a 25 year season ticket holder in basketball. Live over 50 miles away in VA and made trip each year for all home games some away games and A10 Tournament until 3 years ago when just tired of mediocrity of program. Now all support goes to football. I plead to all fans to please expect more of this program. UR has always expected the most out of its athletic programs but this mens program is a joke to all outside of the click
that continues to allow this embarrassment to take place. Please expect more moving forward as we are a joke of a Division 1 program at the Atlantic10 level at this point. For an AD to give a vote of confidence to a coach that has not produced in over 20 p!us years on a consistent basis is crazy. Wake up UR alumni. We can and should be better. To make it worse, these players are not only getting a UR degree, but are getting paid to represent our University. We can do better.

I really want everyone to let this sink in for a second. Our university announced that our coach is coming back for a 22nd year, as we head for a bottom 4 A10 finish 3 of the last 4 years, while the season was still going on. The very next day, we had one of the most humiliating and historically bad losses not just in our history but in all of college basketball by losing after being up by 30 points. To a 16-14 Duquesne team nevertheless. I cannot think of a 24 hour stretch that better epitomizes the state of this basketball program and how our administration enables it than that.

Nothing screams Mooney basketball more than having Tyne and Argabright under the basket (no body blocking out) when the Duquesne player leaped over them for the game winning tap in.
Are you saying having those two double team a 6’9” player on an alley oop by design is not an amazing scheme?

Well, if the dukes scored the entire 40 minutes the way they did the first 14, they would have 29 points.
Conversely, if they scored like the last 26, they would have 106.
Maybe he stopped watching?

I couldn’t help but chuckle a little when I read the comments from people on the basketball teams’s Twitter post of the final score. I presume they are not spider fans but rather people gambling, and they kept complaining how our team must be match fixing. To most people who don’t follow this program, the results are so bad that the only conclusion they draw is that match fixing has to be taking place. However, to us more seasoned Spider fans who have become numb to it all, we know that this is just who we are. Whenever we hit rock bottom, we bring our shovel and dig deeper. One person even tagged the FBI director who we all know is a UR alum lol.

It's all part of MooneySys. He's been doing it regularly. So, yesterday this would be expected to see guards under the goal. And fittingly it blew up AGAIN. You'd think Moon would learn, but the results show differently.

What is this about guards, plural? The only Spider I saw in the clip was Tyne. 2 Dukes and 1 Spider. JRob and AA were closer to foul line.

Well I don't care if we had 10 players under the basket, we were destined to lose. No reflection on the players, they play as hard as they can. All on coaching. I've been saying for 20 years that Mooney is not a good sideline coach (gave him a pass on his first year)

It’s one thing seeing tall guards shoot 3’s over our guards when Moon allows them to attempt to cover 3 point shooters. It’s another thing on switching and positioning short guards on tall forwards or centers near or under goal. That defies common sense, yet it’s one of the treasured tactics in Mooney’s basketball philosophy. And it’s a loser. In yesterday’s game, a GAME LOSER.
