Around the A10

the hype train has left the station!

JRob has as much potential as anyone on the roster, but this was just one exhibition game. let's see a couple games before we annoint him.
according to reports on here he wasn't a top 5 scorer in the MSM game. he'll likely have his ups and downs ... and that's if he earns time. Mooney may slow roll him behind AP and Daughtry.

JRob looked very good and exceeded expectations. However, he didn't attempt a single shot from outside the paint, dribble the ball (to my memory) and had a few fouls trying to defend on the low block. To everyone's point, it's only one exhibition and it's hard to draw too many conclusions. My guess is they will keep him in that 15 MPG range to start the season, particularly if there are defensive lapses. One thing is forsure though, you can't keep that athleticism and energy off the court! Love the way he looked to attack. This team will also need him to rebound well.

If he can attack and rebound well, those are 2 skills I’ll take. We desperately need a guy in the lineup that can do those things. The other skill desires will hopefully come out over time. He might not be a typical Mooney type, but we’ve had those exceptions before that provided plenty of value added to system guys.

Exactly, I don't care if he dribbles once. Hell I see stuff posted on X all the time showing NBA greats that needed one or two dribbles to get to their spot. Kevin Smith surely impacted the game every time he stepped on the court. I'm not worried about the "hype train". We had guys on this board hyping him 365 days back and haven't seen him since, just play him every game vs this crap OOC and let's see what he can do.

I’m thinking that the weak OOC gives JRob more minutes as well and would lean to a 50/50 split with Jaden giving him 20 minutes a game.

Could be slightly more depending on Jaden’s conditioning which has been called into question during time at Indiana St and of course he had not been practicing fully until September I believe. The only thing that could hold JRob back is foul trouble, but hopefully that is not an issue. I saw the 3 quick fouls in the JMU box score but don’t remember that sequence of plays.

Totally agree, the type of player that has been missing from the rotation most years.

Player missing? I suggest we’ve had several players who would have fulfilled this role.
I recall watching Cayo in an early career game and the ball was being weaved around the outside like always and he got the ball, looked around and saw a clear lane to the basket and took in for a layup. I got off my sofa and cheered. He got the hook.

And it marked a turning point for Bradley. They erased the deficit and the game is now seesawing.

Oh boy, was thinking about Simmons a couple weeks back. If we landed him in the portal, and believe we were a finalist, along with Johnston that would have given us a real legit and dangerous back court.

I know sman doesn't believe in the Woj Effect. Fine. Just means that again, he wasn't able to sit down and show Buddy tapes of Jordan King, and the have PQ walking the room with his NIL check book anf get Simmons to committ. Guess it was those scenic February morning walks across the campus in Olean. WTF!!! But I feel better that it was the Woj Effect. If it wasn't then it definitely was the Moon Effect, same one that Cutter felt.
