AA Confirmed to be back 2026-2027

I have no idea if spiderinsider is legit or not. I asked this account several questions and never got a response, even a response saying “I don’t know” or “don’t want to disclose that info”.

However, if AA did get paid $900K for next year, as much as I love what he’s done for our team and think he has the potential to be a fantastic player, we are grossly overpaying him by $400-500K. Even with an increase in our payroll this upcoming season, we still need to spend it wisely.

If this is true, part of me thinks we overspent to keep AA to save face because it would’ve been a terrible look for us to have kept Mooney and then have our best player transfer in what will practically be a complete rebuild next season.

Hope it is true - and for me with this crazy current model, he should get compensated for what the market dictates. Just read that High Point had something like 4M NIL to work with this year and hope we are at least at that level next year. And if so, would think that our best returning player getting 25% of so of that pot is reasonable.

I don’t know the intricacies of the NIL market and all that goes behind it. Of course, someone’s value will be whatever a team is willing to offer. A player being good for a team is also relative and dependent on the expectations they have for the player. Maybe Creighton offered that much because they wanted a back-up PG and we offered that because we know he’s going to be a starter and the impact he has on our team will be greater than on Creighton.

All I’m saying is jeez, if AA is getting $900K from us, we are either greatly overspending or this is just how the market will be now for good players and getting great players will be even significantly more.

I don’t know the exact number but let’s say we are operating with $4 million. That $4 million needs to be distributed among the entire roster with maybe 75% of that going to the starting line up and like 90% going to the top 8 players. For $900K at the A10 level, we need to be getting 1st team all conference kind of production.

insider didn't say we're paying him $900k. said that's what Creighton offered. as we've said, despite the losses he's in a really good situation for a small guard here. I assume we were able to convince him that we'll be adding real talent in the portal with the increased NIL.
this is great news.

If Creighton offered $900K how much do you think we would’ve realistically offered at a minimum? Even with him being a hometown kid, getting a lot of playing time next year, likes the school, staff, teammates, will get talented players next year, etc. I’m sure there was still a minimum threshold we would meet. If true, $900K is hard to turn down if our offer was much lower than that. Not suggesting that money is the only thing a player considers but it certainly is a big piece of the puzzle.

don't know. every kid is different. Schertz talks about Avila not looking for the most dollars. Doogan said staying at UR for less was the best decision for her.
some kids wouldn't stay for a dollar less than the max offer, but seems that's not AA. happy to have him and glad we addressed this early ... assuming we did.

I can vouch for Spiderinsider. He's Mooney's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. With that tight of a connection you know it's true.

Seems odd that Creighton was the one making the offer, if we are to believe any of this. They have 6 underclassmen guards on their current roster. Who knows how many are coming back, but to pay $900k a year for a seventh seems extreme.

If this is all true, I would say we went up to $600k or $700k for him.

No idea of this is true. Also in addition to saying we didn't neccesarily match the supposed 900K offer from Creighton, also left unsaid is the number of years for that offer. Perhaps Creighton offered him 900K for 3 years, that would seem more reasonable to me and if we matched that, paying AA 300K per year also seems like a fair figure. Paying him 900K for 1 year though seems outrageous.

Here is how I see it. We keep Argabright, pick up 4 other good players in the portal, and even have a decent OOC schedule.
Opps, we still have the same triumvirate problem. The money is better spent buying out Mooney and Hardt's contract. Until they're gone, we will never be relevant.

Overpay, underpay, pay at parity. This is the market at work. I really don't care what we paid him. IF IT'S TRUE, I'm just glad to have him back.

He may be the next Kevin Anderson to save Mooney his job.
