2025–26 Spider men's basketball schedule

By chance have you ever heard of Southern Seminary? I had no idea who Southern Virginia was either, but then discovered it is the new name for Southern Sem when it transitioned from a Women’s school to co-ed.

Not saying this is acceptable. It is a total joke of an opening game. I know I won’t be in attendance even if they give away tickets.
No

The fact that I lived in Richmond for 12 years and never once heard of Southern Virginia University is nuts. How are they on our schedule? I don’t see Temple scheduling Neumann University.
I hate our schedule as much as anyone. but look around. maybe Temple isn't playing Neumann, but ...

St Joe's is playing Rutgers-Camden and Arcadia.
GMU is playing Catawba
SLU is playing Principia College
GW has St Mary's (MD)
Duquesne has Cleary University and Central State (OH)
Davidson: DeSales
LaSalle has Lancaster Bible College
Fordham had Mount Saint Mary (NY) and Manhattanville
etc ...

Sucks, but this is where scheduling has gone. a lot of these games aren't even early, like a warmup. some are in December. I don't understand it. it can't be impossible to fill out a schedule with D1's. maybe these are cheaper than D1 buy games?

The D3 game is not really the issue (yes, we shouldn't be scheduling them). But D3 games don't count for or against you in the NET rankings, they are excluded.

The MUCH bigger issue is the other 12 games we have scheduled against subpar D1 competition. As noted that is different from every other team in the A-10 (except perennial cellar dweller, Fordham), who unlike us decided to go out and find games against Quad 1 and 2 competition to both challenge their squad and make sure that they had something on the resume after the OOC.

Davidson plays Wash St, Boston College, Temple, St Mary's and Kansas.

Duquesne is playing Villanova, Nevada, and Boise St.

St Joe's is playing VT, UNLV, and Syracuse.

Loyola is playing Wichita St, No Ill, and Col St.

And nearly all the other A-10 teams have better schedules than us.

What sucks is we could have had a schedule like Davidson if we wanted, or could have played some good Mountain West teams and other good mid majors mixed in with a major like other A-10 teams did if we wanted. We obviously did not want to.

You can keep trying, but it is impossible to justify our schedule.

good Lord, how many times do I have to say our schedule sucks and I hate it?
I'm not justifying our schedule. PA said he didn't see Temple scheduling a crappy D3. I was just pointing out a lot of A10's have crappy D3's on their schedule. that's the way MM scheduling is heading apparently.

Cool. Thanks for the clarification. But, if just looking at our D3 game, I will add that just because a lot of MM's are scheduling them doesn't mean we have to, especially when you look at the other garbage on our schedule.

agreed. and I want someone to put Mooney on the spot and make him answer why he doesn't schedule JMU when they've said they're willing.
Would be nice but no one will. JOC largely appears to be punching the clock and is afraid of getting his stream of info cut off from UR. Maybe our podcast guys can ask this question if they get a chance. Other than that, media doesn't really bother us. We've spent the better part of the past decade deliberately evading the media and making sure our program does not get attention. That strategy has been successful.

We could assure the program DOES get attention is not have gaps of 14 years in between NCAA appearances.

The ticket office released the mini packages yesterday, so I am now in possession of my mobile tickets for the season. I won’t see my name on the perfect attendance list this year, but I will be loud when in the RC.

First in-person game of eight will be versus the Tribe.

That’s fine but we are not a tough midmajor at this juncture.
Not only that, but look at my post from Oct 6th. Plenty of other A-10 teams are getting good teams to play them. And top100 NET teams like Drake plays LSU, top 100 Liberty plays NC State, top 100 Lipscomb plays Duke, Vandy, and Cincy. And plenty more where that came from. And NIT champ Chattanooga played St Marys, USC, and Indiana last year, and this year plays St Mary's, UNLV, and Auburn. So, good teams and good power teams are scheduling top 100 NET mid majors, and also scheduling top 100-150ish mid majors, and also scheduling below 150 mid majors. The "they won't schedule us" excuse is a bunch of BS and I am beyond tired of hearing it.

Perhaps a more accurate term is a "lie".

As you note, nearly all of our peer team and league members were able to find quality OOC games except us and Fordham. So, either, we don't know what the hell we are doing to put a schedule together or our coach and administration is lying to us.

Mooney and Hardt just prove over and over and over that they are fine to slide into oblivion. If we had a program at the level of relevance it should be - minimal standards - no way a Cutter Sisk even has a debate in his mind between effing Wofford and Richmond. But because we are just totally hiding from the smoke and not COMPETING, we are on par with Wofford and have 1/2 the NCAA appearances in the last 15 years. He is LYING about the schedule - JMU coaches outed him big time. But because he is such a NICE guy, no one will call him out.
