2025–26 opponent tracking

Bit of a bounce-back for the A-10 in going 5–2 on the night, although no real surprises in the straight-up W/L results. Would have liked to have seen a bit bigger margins for Bona and Davidson though, and Dayton only kept Bethune-Cookman at arm's length most of the way rather than really putting them away. GW continuing to put up big scoring numbers.

On the non-conference side, W&M hung with St John's for a half before getting blown out as mentioned. Otherwise things went about as expected. We did have two OOC opponents facing each other with Elon and Gardner-Webb, while ODU was taken down by GW.

11/15

Non-conference (2–4, 2–3 D-I vs D-I)
- St John's 93, W&M 60
- Jacksonville 69, VMI 67
- Elon 95, Gardner-Webb 84
- Belmont 83, Oral Roberts 60
- GW 96, ODU 73
- Guilford (D-III) 109, Southern Virginia 93

A-10 (5–2)
- Penn State 87, La Salle 77
- Mason 61, New Hampshire 44
- Bona 84, Youngstown St 80
- Davidson 91, Bowling Green 87
- GW 96, ODU 73
- Dayton 91, Bethune-Cookman 82
- Villanova 84, Duquesne 68

As noted, Loyola is seeing the downside of scheduling tough mid-majors when the big boys won't play you, but I still think these are the games you need to try to get. Just need to be better on the court.

11/16

Non-conference (1–1)
- Virginia Tech 84, Charlotte 76
- Illinois State 82, Long Beach State 80

A-10 (1–1, 0–1 vs D-I)
- Colorado State 80, Loyola 67
- Fordham 96, Manhattanville (D-III) 62

I agree with you sentament, but would add you have to schedule as tough as you think you can win.

Early schedule results suggest that UR may be able to beat Furman and then I think the Spiders will play Charlotte. Watched the 49ers game today vs VT and they look like a formidable opponent. Will be interesting to see how the “chocolate tournament” turns out.

Rocco Miller's updated rankings of non-power teams. He counts traditional one-bid leagues, so A-10, MWC, American, and WCC are not included. I've also included their movements compared to his preseason rankings.

Creme de la creme
5. Belmont - steady but moved up from 2nd tier

2nd Tier
17. Illinois State - down from 7

Next Crop
26. Southern Illinois - up from 32
45. W&M - up from 49
(47. JMU) - down from 26
55. Furman - down from 18
60. Elon - new to the rankings

Also note Radford at 35 (down from 25), Iona at 53 (new to the rankings), and Columbia at 59 (new to the rankings).

Sheesh, even our mediocre mid-major schedule is falling apart in front of our eyes.

Creme de la creme
5. Belmont (steady)

2nd Tier
None

Next Crop
31. Southern Illinois (down from 26 last week and up from 32 preseason)
34. Illinois State (down from 17 last week and 7 preseason)

Dropped Out
W&M, JMU, Furman, Elon

Radford also dropped out, but Iona moved up 30 spots to #23 and Columbia moved up 11 spots to #48.

Amusing to see UMass included in this thanks to A-10 departure.

Quiet night for our opponents, but not a good one as they went 0–3. VCU put up a good fight at NC State but didn't get the job done.

11/17

Non-conference (0–1)
- North Dakota State 92, Southern Illinois 85

A-10 (0–2)
- #25 NC State 85, VCU 79
- Penn 83, St Joe's 74

Yes did not watch but I think NC State is legit with Wade this season. Two Ls but played Utah State and NC State tough. Looks like VCU will be in the running for top of the A10 once again.

watched most CofC games last year - Lazar has improved but isn't going to be a superstar in A10 imo
He looked good last night. Tracey and Evans looked strong as well. The Rams may have taken it to OT, but sort of fell in love with the 3 and weren’t making them at end of game.

It was a nip and tuck, fast paced game.

Not going to be any sort of let down from Broad St as usual regardless of coaching change.

2–0 day for the A-10 with URI getting a nice win over Yale. OOC was a different story with ECU, Gardner-Webb, and ODU all getting blown out. Southern Virginia did pick up their first win of the season though!

11/18

Non-conference (2–3, 1–3 vs D-I)
- Southern Virginia 71, Eastern Mennonite 63
- UNCW 85, ECU 60
- DePaul 93, Gardner-Webb 62
- Xavier 99, ODU 69
- Charleston Southern 103, IU Indy 91

A-10 (2–0)
- Mason 79, Jacksonville 57
- Rhody 86, Yale 77

Bonus exhibition opponent (1–0)
- JMU 81, Towson 75
