2025–26 opponent tracking

Great win for Dayton over Shaka / Marquette. Marquette had the ball tied with 17 seconds left, started to engage at 8 seconds, and didn’t end up getting a shot off.

Ok win. Marquette is down this year. Got blown out by Indiana and lost to a rebuilding Maryland team. The Big East only has 2 teams guaranteed to dance. May be able to get 1-2 other teams in, but will be a challenge.

Solid night for the A-10 with Dayton getting a decent OT win over Marquette. GW and Duquesne took care of business, while La Salle unsurprisingly fell to Villanova.

Also a perfect night on the OOC side with W&M taking down Bowling Green and Belmont taking out Lipscomb in the Battle of the Boulevard. (Noyes DNP again and was in street clothes...not clear what's ailing him.) The other two wins were against non-D-I opponents.

11/19

Non-conference (4–0, 2–0 vs D-I)
- W&M 82, Bowling Green 74
- Furman 79, Ohio Christian (NCCAA) 44
- Belmont 75, Lipscomb 68
- The Citadel 70, North Greenville (D-II) 57

A-10 (3–1)
- Villanova 70, La Salle 55
- GW 89, UMBC 52
- Duquesne 92, Loyola MD 78
- Dayton 77, Marquette 71 (OT)

nice Citadel win against the North Greenville squad who beat Gardner-Webb

It's been a week and the Spiders just played, so I figure it's a good time for another KenPom revisit. And yes, this is still with whatever preseason weighting is still in the formula.

GW has risen to the top of the pack, jumping 27 spots since last week to land at 52 with SLU and VCU not far behind and Dayton trying to climb back into the mix. Spiders are knocking on the door of the top 100.

On the other end of spectrum, St. Joe's, Loyola, and La Salle all dropped big this week, with Loyola now down 80 spots compared to preseason rankings. Only Fordham has had a bigger drop in the A-10.

52. GW (+27 from last week, +29 from preseason)
56. SLU (+12 from last week, +9 from preseason)
57. VCU (+4 from last week, +3 from preseason)
65. Dayton (+4 from last week, –11 from preseason)
83. Mason (+6 from last week, +8 from preseason)
101. Rhody (+17 from last week, +11 from preseason)
105. Richmond (+11 from last week, +14 from preseason)
114. Duquesne (–2 from last week, –4 from preseason)
118. Bona (–11 from last week, +4 from preseason)
122. Davidson (–3 from last week, +28 from preseason)
151. St. Joe's (–36 from last week, –42 from preseason)
179. Loyola (–41 from last week, –80 from preseason)
228. La Salle (–29 from last week, –27 from preseason)
271. Fordham (+8 from last week, –89 from preseason)

not sure if this is fully correct or not but will be very interesting to see how things look once pre-season weighting is removed ..

this is my problem with the NET and the T-Rank stuff. we haven't done anything worthy of a top 60 team in the country.

our offensive and defensive efficiencies are bloated by playing crappy teams. which is exactly why Mooney made this uninteresting schedule. because the current metrics will reward you for beating up crappy teams.

the old RPI may have been simplistic and I'm sure wasn't perfect, but NET sucks.

T-rank isn’t trying to say anything about worthiness, it is trying to say who is more likely to win when a game occurs. Doesn’t care at all about having a good resume, just what their model thinks based on box scores. NET is half predictive (like trank and kenpom) and half resume worthiness ( which is more along the lines of what the selection committee does)

That being said, there is a reason preseason expectations are factored into the predictive systems for a while. There is not enough data from games played this season for these predictive models to be accurate without some preseason expectations factored in.

I'm not waiting around until midnight for the finish of Joe's–UNLV, so here's what we've got so far today.

Bona and Fordham take care of business against lower-level opponents, while Joe's is battling in a close one so far. On the OOC side, Elon got pounded pretty well by Miami, while Illinois State beat up on a D-III.

Edit: An 8–0 UNLV run with about 8 minutes to go finally established some separation, and the Rebels went on to a 99–85 win in a foul-heavy affair.

11/20

Non-conference (1–1, 0–1 vs D-I)
- Illinois State 93, Rockford (D-III) 48
- Miami 99, Elon 72

A-10 (2–1 so far)
- Bona 75, Robert Morris 61
- Fordham 69, LIU 53
- UNLV 99, St Joe's 85
