2025–26 opponent tracking

at the end of the year when we look back at our OOC opponents' overall combined records, I think it is relevant to the program and its approach, what the decision makers and schedule makers think of the team.

The product being offered was THE MOST HOME GAMES EVER (sarcastic emphasis from all the UR press), so it's relevant to season ticket holders what they're paying for.

Belmont and Gardner-Webb will likely cancel out. The rest? We will see. (footnote: that GW team was one of the worst I have ever seen play at the RC. Just atrocious.)

Here’s some data on our OOC records so far.

Total D1 record of our 12 D1 opponents we played so far:
110-161 or 40% win rate

If you subtract Belmont who is 21-3 then it is 89-158 or 36% win rate

Our NET OOC strength of schedule is 345

Our RPI OOC strength of schedule is 341

If you use KenPom there are 8 A10 teams with 300 or worse OOC SOS, including last in the nation Fordham.

where are you seeing these? the site below has us 269 ... only better than Fordham in the A10.

Down goes Belmont, falling in OT to Bradley. The Bruins do still have a game and a half lead on Murray State for the MVC crown, and Bradley is pretty decent, but still not a great outcome. Noyes played 28 minutes off the bench and had 14 points including 4-of-8 from deep. Southern Illinois also picked up a win over Indiana State, though this is not the same Indiana State team of recent years, with Schertz, Avila, and crew gone.

Davidson whooped up on Mid-Atlantic Christian out of the USCAA. The Mustangs are making the rounds of regional D-I programs, having already played Hampton, Campbell, NC Central, NC A&T, and SC State this season.

"We searched tirelessly to find an additional non-conference game throughout the preseason, but we were never able to reach an agreement with the right opponent on the right date," said head coach Matt McKillop.

"With the A-10 schedule giving us a 9-day break during our bye week in early February, we were given an interesting opportunity to find a game. Having the chance to compete on the court to maintain our energy and growth as we head into the final stretch of our season, while still allowing for us to get the needed rest of a bye week, is something that our staff and players all believe to be the best thing for this team."

2/9

Non-conference (1–1)
- Southern Illinois 80, Indiana State 65
- Bradley 95, Belmont 84 (OT)

A-10 (1–0. 0–0 vs D-I)
- Davidson 114, Mid-Atlantic Christian (USCAA) 53

Two other A-10 games tonight, including another surprising result with Fordham taking down St. Joe's. And GW finally won a game without Castro, only going seven deep in their rotation with four guys out on the availability report. Rhody had six players listed as out and played eight guys tonight, including Hinton coming off the bench after missing the past three games with a leg injury.

2/10

A-10
- GW 75, Rhody 70
- Fordham 68, St. Joe's 64

First, a ridiculous number of hoops to read that article and be warned it is a dud.

Second, it is a sad state of affairs when the current season isn't over and the focus is will the coach stay and can the school come up with the funds it will need to retain its returning players. I think there will have to be a "new type of fan" for this type of college basketball to continue.

VCU keeps rolling, moving to 10–2 in A-10 play, although they were pushed a bit by La Salle.

And our OOC opponents crapped the bed again today with the exception of ECU.

2/11

Non-conference (1–5. 1–4 D-I vs D-I)
- Methodist (D-III) 90, Southern Virginia (D-III) 87
- ECU 88, UTSA 72
- UNCG 92, VMI 71
- Marshall 81, ODU 79
- Mercer 69, Furman 64
- Western Carolina 87, The Citadel 49

A-10
-VCU 77, La Salle 68

Like the vision. This is the attitude you should have. Myself, been attacked by mooneyites for suggesting such high goals that I am beaten down. Poor Lil ol Richmond. Woe is me.
I feel like NIL can be the great equalizer. fund raising is paramount.

but like everyone we'll have a budget and I'm going to assume we're not able to raise as much as a high major can. if SLU can raise big money, they can certainly compete with the big boys.

unpopular opinion, but I kinda agree with Mooney that we're probably better off targeting high school kids than competing with the big money programs for top transfers. it's more likely we can keep a really good player than attract one from the portal. but of course ... supplement in the portal as needed.

Right, agree going through high school and supplementing is the way to go. Just Mooney has been bad at HS route other than a few outliers lately. Mooney has just been mediocre and not consistent at either. Good year , mediocre year bad year mediocre. But lots of excuses, which we know some are flat out lies from Mr. Perfect (hint hint JMU situation)

I’d be happy to become a bastion for talented true freshmen every year, but if this year is any indication we are still fishing in small ponds for relatively small fish. We have to aim and close higher.

Again, some power conference schools have basically gone on record that established portal players are the number 1 2 and 3 priorities. Which is leaving opportunity for many a mid major to land top 150 guys. Not us. I'll give him AA this season.
