What do we want for our men’s basketball program

Idk about you guys, I’d coast for 21 years and win the bare minimum of games after making a huge ncaa tournament run. Would’ve put us up higher. Who wouldn’t want to be a millionaire and know they could lose every meaningful game in a season and still keep you job. Heck, even some will praise you.

Yep seems like different criteria could be at play for each respondent. I have hard time as to why GW would be high, unless someone is a fan of the city. But they seem like they have a huge lack of fans and lack of interest.

I want recruits who are ready to play game 1. I want more athletes on the floor. Less substitutions. Dominant guard play. Starters who are so good, you know they will clearly be our starters. Versatile role players. Some great shooters. Leaders. Some great defensive players. Guys who will always give great effort.

A good OOC schedule every year. A team talented enough that looks like it could be top 4 A-10 and capable of winning the A-10 tourney every year. A team with great chemistry who gets better and better with each game. No terrible, below .500 A-10 seasons so our good years top 4 A-10 and bad years .500 A-10.

Lack of accountability should boost UR to a higher position, but I’m guessing weighting is not in play.

Good stuff 4700. I do like how you have "more athletes on the floor" near the top. Our guys look pretty athletic vs top 300 rated teams, but when we step in competition can see a disparity. And tha affects everything, ability to defend, get open, create offense off the dribble, rebound. I would take two Kevin Smiths on the team every year , he could impact the game in so many ways.

You are on a generational run. Keep this going

I think/hope we're trying to move toward being a more athletic team. I haven't seen enough of McGlothin but AA, Harper and JRob appear more athletic than our typical players. hopefully incoming freshmen are too.

I can see Dayton and VCU being the highest rated, but the rest of the jobs are almost the same and would come down to personal preferences on things like public/private and geography.
VCU, Dayton, and SLU definitely want to play big boy ball and if a better opportunity came along they would be out of the A-10 in heartbeat. If the A-10 were to lose any or all of them, the league would simply be another mid-major.

I think even with these teams, the A-10 is currently just another mid major. St Louis might want to play big boy ball, but they have not been dancing since 2019, and that is their only time in the past 11 seasons. Dayton has the big reputation and they also might want to play big boy ball, but they have been dancing once the past 8 seasons.

The deck is stacked against mid-majors for sure. Dayton goes out and plays a big boy schedule every year, they pack their building. SLU made a great hire who has quickly rebuilt that program from the mess that Travis Ford left it. I bet they both have very healthy NIL budgets.

They both are acting like they want to win, now execution on that goal, is always subject to performance. To me, they both act very differently than our program does.

My expectation is to see and hear the same thing from our Athletic Department and all coaches and sports. Our goal is to win the conference championship and receive an NCAA tournament berth every year! There should always be ENERGY and Excitement surrounding our programs.
For basketball I would love to see us come out ready to play and hit the offensive glass hard and NEVER lose to VCU on our home court period.

Field of 68 anonymously polled veteran head and assistant coaches in the league to rank the A-10 jobs. It was up to each coach what criteria they used to rank, but we ended up middle of the pack. Would love to have had some comments to go along with each team.

La salle’s financial situation is so dire they are at risk of losing their accreditation. That is the only reason I can think of to put them below fordham. Can you participate in D1 athletics if you aren’t accredited?

Accreditation is mandatory for D-I schools.

That said, La Salle did see a 40% increase in freshman class size this year. Doesn't mean they're out of the woods, but it's better than continuing to decline.

I want a team that doesn't have to win the A10 tournament in order to get into the NCAA tourney. I HATE starting the season knowing with our schedule we must win the conference tournament. Most every year we are out of the at-large discussion by the third game. Richmond could be 24-7 or 7-24 and it doesn't matter

With the current membership of the A10, you must win the conference tournament to go to the NCAA tournament. Sometimes a member has a good season then loses in the championship game and is selected for the tournament. When Xavier, Temple and Butler departed and were replaced by George Mason, vcu and Davidson, the once proud A10 became the new CAA.
