We're officially doomed

I think we as fans worry about last year's team record more than kids do. that's in the past. if they come and the right other kids come, they believe they'll win. the fact we've publically stated we're increasing NIL is big because a talented kid can believe he's not coming alone.

we're in a good conference with great facilities, and the degree a multi-year transfer can get here is valuable ... to the kind of kid we want anyway.
but we need to lock up AA first. he's the priority. we don't have a lot of draws on the returning team. guys will want to play with him. he should be the guy hosting every kid who comes for a visit.

Every team we compete against for transfers and recruits will have an AA type who can try to sell them on going there. I love AA and want him back, but I don't think he gives us this big recruiting advantage when it comes to transfers or freshmen. Sorry to be negative, but I am having a hard time finding any positives at all.

just saying if he stays, he can be the top reason why a tranfer picks UR. our #1 recruiter.
the time spent with the top guy on a visit is really important if they bond.

You seem to forget that these other players if they are good, are going to have other really good offers as well. So, why would they choose here, with a coaching staff on the hottest of seats, with a roster devoid of talent except AA, with team that finished in the Bottom 4 of its league the past 2 years, with a program that schedules a bunch of cupcakes OOC and is never on TV as a result.

If a player is looking to transfer here, they sure as heck are looking at all of this stuff, roster, recent success, chance to play in big games, chance to make the NCAA tourney. We literally check zero of any of those important boxes.

My point is pretty much every team will have a key guy being their #1 recruiter, so I don't see any advantage with this.

Exactly. And add how outdated our offense is and how our defense leaves our guys on the wrong end of mismatches. We do not play an exciting brand of basketball. We play not to lose, even though we lose a lot, instead of playing to win. But, sman seems to think having AA show guys around makes all of our issues go away, and will attract all these guys here, as if no other A-10 teams have guys on the all freshmen team, or even better, all A-10 teams or veteran leaders from winning teams, to show transfers around.

Money is not going to fix the Mooney problem, and Mooney is not going to fix the money problem. And that's a problem. Both ways.
The other part of the equation that our administration doesn't understand. We know we have numerous fans cancelling season tickets, I wonder how many of our bigger NIL donors are also saying I'm done as well. That number has to be larger than zero and I don't think we have a plethora of big donors to begin with.

I'm sure just like we can get new fans, we can get new big mega donors as well. I don't think they understand the depth of the discontentment by so many within our fanbase.

lol, I know you're upset, but you really think we won't land good transfers this year?

I don't know what your definition of good is Will they be good enough to make us a .500 A-10 team next year, maybe. Good enough to have us compete for an NCAA bid, good enough to change the trajectory of our program, good enough for us to not get hammered by VCU twice, absolutely not.

We have always landed good transfers (Lopez and Johnston were good transfers), but how many will we get and how much will it help?
1. We need about 5 really good transfers.
2. Mooney needs to make them all fit.
3. Mooney needs to coach them well even if they are all good and all fit.
4. I have my doubts this trifecta will happen.

that's fair. but from posts I've been reading, nobody decent will come here.
that's never been the case and I'm certain (especially with more NIL) that won't be the case this year.
I think we'll be happy with who we land, but it has to start with AA.

I never said no one decent will come here. I said I don't think AA makes a lot of difference with who we land, for reasons I have already shared.

We could land prime Shaq in the portal and Mooney will have standing out at the 3 point line trying to feed back door cuts. Even if we land some "decent" transfers, they have to still play in Mooney's difficult to learn and antiquated system. No one runs either his offense or defensive schemes and there is a reason for that. It is also a system that he has given zero indication he has any plans to change either.

what he runs isn't that difficult (imo) or antiquated. I think he often recruits the wrong type of player for the stuff he wants to run, and doesn't adjust what he runs for the personnel he recruits.
