Transfer commit - Andrew Ball

Maybe he could be another Tyler Harris, which would mean this was a key addition. They have a similar build. Harris never scored a lot at West. Carolina, but came here, did a lot of things well, and became a key rotation piece for us. Lack of playmaking doesn't bother me at all. We never needed Harris to be a playmaker. We just need some size, which Ball has, some good defense, some rebounding, and a little offense with some timely 3s.

But how about we finish committing our funds to actual contributors before committing it to end of bench players? What we have right now isn’t good enough to compete in our league let alone compete for a postseason birth.
we had 6 or 7 spots to fill. we weren't going to fill them all with $750k players. figure 3 in that range, and 3 in the $250k range or less. I'm estimating but you get the idea. the number for non starters has gone wild. a 6th man transfer from Monmouth would get $50k tops 2 years ago.

I'm sure we have offers out to guys we like at each range. but you take the commitment when you get it.

Hopefully, this guy doesn't turn out to be our 3rd best signee. That said, I do love that he can play defense. We saw the past 2 years, signing guys on the portal that did some nice offensive things at lower levels but nearly all of them were pretty atrocious on defense. And that was the largest reason we sucked the past 2 years, despite the fact that we could look at our team and believe that we had talent.

Maybe defense was the biggest reason we sucked the last 2 years, but let's not overlook how bad our offense was as well.
2025: 241st in offensive efficiency and 229th in defensive efficiency.
2026: 129th in offense and 223rd in defense.

* Interesting that we were still only 156th in offensive efficiency in 2024, but being 34th in defense was huge that year.

2023: 202 in offense and 117 in defense.

My goodness, those are ugly numbers. In the last 4 years, out of 8 possible outcomes ( 4 offense and 4 defense), we only have 1 higher than 117th best in the country. I will say it again....opposing coaches have figured us out.
