Spiders No. 19

As mentioned on today's broadcast, Creme currently has the Spiders on the outside looking in. We're actually the 6th team out as of Friday.

Notably, Fairfield, which beat the pants off of us, is the 2nd team out. They don't have the MAAC auto at the moment because they lost by 14 at home to Quinnipiac on Thursday, moving Quinnipiac to 13–0 and dropping Fairfield to 12–1. Fairfield is #57 in the NET while Quinnipiac is #76.

Rhody has the A-10 auto at a 10-seed, and of course Mason is also 10–0 in A-10 play but not in Creme's first 8 out.

Well, the tournament can't survive without 10-11 teams each from the SEC or the Big 18. Having any mid-major conference get more than one invite just won't fly.

Guess it took a day for the magnitude of the SLU win to sink in since Spiders move up one spot to 42 in the NET. Actually it’s just a reflection of what happens to other teams who may move up or down. In this case Virginia Tech’s NET fell to 43 allowing us to move up one spot.

We have these games left. @George Mason, @Davidson, @Saint Joseph’s, vs. George Mason, and vs. Rhode Island. If we win 4 out of those 5 and don’t lose to any other A10 team before the tournament, our NET will be below 40 and I think we’ll be in as an at-large.

I was looking at some sites last night and found some random stuff that was interesting- at least it was to me.
1, don’t look now but Loyola has won six in a row and has edged ahead of Davidson into fourth place;
2. In terms of NET, the A-10 is ranked as the sixth best conference;
3. Warren Nolan’s site shows RPI and ELO rankings. Richmond has an RPI of 20 and ELO of 22. I didn’t try to find our SRS ranking. /s

I'm not sold on Loyola becoming anything special...they have been feasting on the bottom of the conference in this win streak. Though they did at least hang with Mason in their only loss over their past 9 games.

I think they're probably a bit better now than the drubbing we gave them two months ago, but they have not become a top-tier team. They do benefit from the unbalanced schedule, as they only play us, Rhody, Davidson, and Joe's once each. Mason is only top team they get twice.

NDSU see-sawed back ahead of us, but we held at #41 thanks to Stanford losing at #90 Georgia Tech by 22 yesterday and dropping from 37 to 42.

Rhody blows out VCU and Mason takes care of Dayton to keep things super tight at the top. And Loyola falls victim to Duquesne's first A-10 win of the season, so the top three in the A-10 are all at least 3.5 games clear of everyone else.

Spiders flip-flop to move ahead of NDSU again, moving up to #40 in the NET. Rhody up two spots to 45, and Mason up two to 65. Davidson still hanging around the top group at 69 and St. Joe's at 84, but not in the mix based on A-10 record.

Creme overnight dropped us back to 4th team out from 3rd team out previously.

Her Hoops Stats hasn't updated since 2/10 but has both us and Rhody as 10-seeds.

College Sports Madness doesn't have us in or first four out as of yesterday, with this comment: "At this point I do not expect the Summit League to have two teams in, nor do I expect the Atlantic 10 to have two teams in the bracket. However, that can change very quickly but those teams (South Dakota State and Richmond) need some help."

CBS last updated on 2/10 and has us as the 4th team out (Fairfield is 3rd out).

The IX Basketball updated on 2/11 and has us as one of the last four in, playing a First Four game against VT.

USA Today updated on 2/11 and has us as one of the last four in.

The Athletic as of 2/13 has us as a 10-seed, with Rhody as a 9-seed.
