So Sick of Huesman!!!

Ferrum Spider

New recruit
Like clockwork, off to another bad start. Only this time in a new conference, 8-3 is far from a gaurantee to get in the playoffs. It was right there, win this game and have the inside track to an auto bid to the FCS playoffs. Now, we need Lehigh to lose 2x if were to hope to win a league that has never had an auto bid in its history.

Coach RH is a good, not great coach that skews closer to average than great. I am so sick of watching this guy, who was handed a ferrari when he was hired, stumble his way out the gate EVERY year without fail. Yes, Coach RH can make us competitive against good teams and maybe even overperform at times during the course of a season. But forgive me as someone who watched us win a Natty, I would like to strive for a higher bar than shooting ourselves in the foot early every season and putting us behind the 8 ball in the playoff hunt.

The second adversity hits, its like were being coached by Elmer Fudd. We were knocking on the door of controlling the game that we had dominmated the entire half, only to make one mistake, then predictibly unravel as we always do under this team. One bad play turned into a nightmare game and it didnt even result in a turnover. His body language is terrible and the weakness he showed when we didnt even try and get the ball in the end zone then immediately opted to end the half instead of try and score. Of course the propoganda coming out of the Robins Center this week was just how competitive we were in this exciting new league and how we have a new rival! BARF!!!!

How on gods earth was that kicker allowed to put on a helmet and suit up in a division I game? No offense Im sure hes a nice person, but I have guys on my rec league soccer team that can nail that missed field goal. That is a firable offense in and of itself.

Fix this mess Russ!

Sadly, our season is practically over now. With prior seasons, our early losses were out of conference. We still had the chance to win the conference for the auto bid. Also, CAA had enough parity where we could win conference even with 1-2 losses. Now, it’s a different story. The rest of our schedule is not enough to get us an at-large and Lehigh is far and away the favorite to win the rest of their conference games this season to get the auto bid. Stinks that our season is essentially over after the first game, but we only have ourselves to blame. If we’re going to keep implementing this dumb QB run first idea, with a QB who does not look very mobile or quick, we can’t throw a ball more than 10 yards down the field, and kick a 33 yard field goal, then this is what we should expect.

Man, I hope you feel better now..

Me thinks we are headed for a 6-6 season, best case. The Patriot League is a better league than the CAA,top to bottom.
VMI and Gtown and Howard look like W’s.
Everything else in the remaining Patriot league schedule is up for grabs with impending losses coming from UNC and WM.

Season’s not over. Even if Lehigh only loses one like to Holy Cross, we could find ourselves in perhaps a 3-way tie that could potentially go our way. Tall task to win out the rest of the way in PL, but not impossible. One game at a time.

But I agree that our offense isn’t dynamic enough under Huesman/Wickersham. Coleman saved us last year, so we shouldn’t be surprised that this is where we’re at. We saw it in the first few games last year, and now more of the same.

The bad center snap completely changed the direction of the game. Plus they beat us at both lines of scrimmage. We've got to clean that up first. And they're good and we'll coached.

I was there and it wasn't pretty. The problem to me is simple - - Wickersham ran it 14 times and threw it 20. Thats 34 plays out of 51 we rely basically on him. And he is simply not a dynamic player in any way to justify putting the ball in his hands 67% of all of our plays. He has no speed in the run game and is nothing but a game manager in the pass game. Basically we have to be absolutely perfect on offense to score because our ceiling is so low. No big plays, no tough throws for key TD etc. I am sure he is a great kid, has been loyal and is probably a good leader. He is simply not a QB that we can win the biggest games with. We have seen this under Huesman repeatedly - - he doesn't want a QB that makes big plays and occasional mistakes - - - he is comfortable with Wickersham types at QB. We can win against the weak parts of our schedule with this - - - but are exposed against the stronger teams. The only time he strays from this is when he has a strong established OC )who comes from outside) who basically says overrules him and recruits or brings with him a dynamic QB to run his system. We have done our best with these guys but every time the QB/OC leave, Huesman goes back to the 3 yards and a cloud of dust approach with both spots until it puts his job in jeopardy. How he can't see that his best teams have been really good passing the ball is beyond me.

Don't jump ship yet.

The PL has had a ton of parity and Champions have been determined the last two week of the season...plenty of times.

This Richmond team is going to lose at least 2 games in PL. I can see Colgate and Holy Cross. Until W&M and Villanova arrive next year, PL will be 1 bid conference. Congrats to you all for winning the conference.

My biggest gripe with Huesman is his inability to value the QB as a position meant to be throwing first. To his credit, we’ve won the conference the past 2 years so he went off the hot seat, but if you look at it more closely, he’s just not a good head coach. I knew it as soon as we we had the season with Lauletta and couldn’t make the playoffs. Stop running.

How could he see how well we did with Camden last year, and think going with Wickersham, who looks like he should be playing inside linebacker, as a running QB for 20 times in a game is a good idea. This is not a knock on Wickersham. He's doing what the coaching staff is telling him. It just simply doesn’t work and/or we are executing it very poorly. Also, I get that we got screwed with our kicking situation a little bit, but how can we not recruit more than one kicker who can hit it 35 yards? Even I can make a 35 yard FG. Just disappointing for a football team that once won a national championship and making deep playoff runs was the expectation.

Defense is great though but defense alone won’t win us games.
