Replacements

Feels tough to pry McKay away from Lynchburg again. He's going to be 61 in a couple of months and is making close to $2m. He can easily finish out his career there at this point.

Matt Braeur at SFA would be the first person I call. 20-3 record there in his first year of head coaching. It’s not a hard rule, but I’ve noticed the best coaches at the A10 for programs tend to be coaches who are younger and are coming up after success at lower programs. Look at Josh Schertz. Even look at Roussell who did really well at U. Chicago and Bucknell before coming in. It’s not to say that going for coaches who were fired from P5 or assistant coaches can’t work out, but our primary options should be coaches who are younger and have had success as head coaches at lower level programs.

Matt Braeuer would be a fantastic choice but we know this isn’t going to happen.

Maybe it is going to happen, when Braeuer is Mooney’s age…

Yes, in addition to our

I looked up Braeur. He could be a home run. Downside, is this is first year as a head coach. Did Grant McCasland build that and leave him a ready made team and system this year (though I would concur that you still get credit for seeing it through). Not much track record. But the time to get him (if we were to think he is the guy) is this year. Two more years like this and he hops right over MW / A10 and goes power conference.

I have been hearing a lot about Joe Gallo - the Merrimack coach. Looked him up, not as impressive as would have hoped. The absolute funny part is he just signed a 10 Year contract at Merrimack. Good luck with that Merrimack.

Is Miami of Ohio still undefeated? I know nothing about that program but it seems that whoever is coaching them must have figured out how to work the new era of basketball.

Yes including 3 overtime wins earlier, 2 of last 4 by wins by 2 points, one over A10 powerhouse UMass.

Top 3 win streaks
Miami (OH) 24
SLU 17
Liberty 14

Here is a dream. Harden crashes out again in the playoffs. Kenny is tired of the NBA grind. Cleveland buys him out. Mooney and PQ get caught on tape making some comments that look very bad and moon resigns and PQ recedes. A new super donor that loves hoops steps in, hires Atkinson and sets a big NIL budget. Kenny kills the press conference saying priority is to win the A10, beat VCU twice a year, play anyone anytime, and get to NCAAs. Uses his extensive background as an NBA coach and NIL budget to sign 2 top 25 HS players and a haul in the portal. 1st game of the era is a sell out with UNC in the Robins Center. A guy can dream.

Now you’re talking!

Miami (OH) has zero chance for an at large in current way of things.
#360 in NET OOC SOS, so they somehow managed to do worse than us in that department. And that doesn't even count THREE non-DI opponents. Zero Q1 and only two Q2 games all season, and all of the rest of their games the rest of the way will be Q3/Q4 unless they manage to meet Akron in the MAC tournament.

If they were to run the table and lose to Akron in the MAC final, you'd like to think a team 30–1 against D-I competition would make it, but also don't schedule so crappily OOC. Heck, we should have scheduled each other.

The last time we were thinking we might be able to ditch Mooney, I was very high on Casey Alexander. He has not disappointed at his alma mater. Would have been nice to have him racking up all those 20+ win seasons for us instead of them.

17, your guy Braeuer already being mentioned for jobs

surprised no one is commenting on Hartman on this list.

I pulled this from his bio on UF website "From 2005-08, Hartman worked as assistant coach and was the lead recruiter at Richmond for three seasons where he recruited three of the top scorers in program history, including future NBA Draft pick Justin Harper."
