Postmortem Offense

32counter I yield to your football knowledge!
I have fought the realization of how bad our coaching decisions are. We still have talent to compete at the top of the Patriot league but our coaches decisions make our team look weak and unprepared. It is a sad and sick feeling to once again go to a game and not feel like we have a chance to win.

Can someone explain to me how a coaching staff could not try something to stop the hole in the middle of our defense against Bucknell and Holy Cross and not adjusting to at least forcing them to run elsewhere?
Help my frustrated mine to understand this?

The offense really is handicapped by the coaching. Its not just play calling. Its the inexplicable love for Wickersham and all that comes with that. Look the guy is tough and committed, but in the games he has played he has either carried the ball or passed it on 2/3 of our offensive snaps. He is simply not dynamic enough in either the run game or the pass game to justify the whole offense centered around him to this level. This is especially true since we design the whole offense to accommodate his limited skill set and then are forced to bad plays calls because the offense simply is designed to be more dynamic than what we see.

I'd rather live with someone's mistakes while they develop than live with the significant limitations of a fully developed mistake free Wickersham. Its really unbelievable to me how we keep turning to this guy even as we see time and again how limited he is and how much he limits us. We have never been a good offensive team with him, but at times during his time here we have been very good with other quarterbacks who we chose Wickersham over!

And at this point this year, there is absolutely no reason to play him any more. Give me one of the youngsters and let him play loose - - - if he turns it over a bunch, at least he is hopefully learning.

I’m speechless….

Our line play, both offensive and especially defensive, has had their butts kicked by each PL team that we've played to date. Need to recruit and develop both lines or get used to losing.

The Spider troubles are definitely the coaching. Unfortunately, there is a small chance of much happening on that front so one has to hope that the staff is able to recruit players that can excel despite poor play calling.

From today’s post season interview session, it sounded like #16 wasn’t even a full go but Russ wanted to reward his senior QB with the start at Homecoming. Definitely not the way to win football games.

The playoff hope was gone before this game regardless of what the staff was saying. It was easy to tell that this was not a playoff bound team. I was hoping the Spiders would get the act together to make a ok showing in the Patriot League standings, but that hope is fading fast. Have to win all remaining league games to finish with a winning record and Lafayette appears to be one of the best teams in the league.

Hopefully the Spiders are able to regroup during the bye week and go on the end of year run. Go Spiders!

On defense, we are a poor tackling team. Runners get extra yardage via broken tackles.
Our DBs grab and hold receivers way too much and most of our penalties come from this area.
On offense we have beaten a dead horse every game with tunnel vision on play selection. Holy
Cross obviously studied our formations closely as any flanker screen or jet sweep went for losses.
Our OL just does not have a great push to consistently open holes. On a positive note, #81 is turning
into a very good receiver. Yesterday, was any pass thrown to a TE?

Seems like coach dad is chasing the success that coach son had 10 years ago with a QB that has similar physical attributes of coach son to the detriment of our football program.

If we are riding with Huesman as our HC, he just needs to get as far away from the offense as possible. I said this after watching them live at UNC - this is just not a good football team.

Agreed, except I doubt 16 thought it was a reward to play today.

There has to be another “Billy Cosh” out there somewhere, we can get for an OC.
unfortunately huesmans constant negativity is too well known at this point so I doubt anyone besides his son would want to work for him. Listening to his interviews are just painful. He does nothing to change.
