Mike Walz - Senior - Eligibility ends after '25-26 season

I don't think it's any of that. I think it is simply he's not an alpha dog and he plays like it.
While I think playing in Mooney's system for 4 years will take the alpha out of most dogs and especially so when you place your 6'11 strong as on ox center out at the 3 point line with his back to the basket regularly as part of our offense. But also I agree Walz never was an alpha to begin. Mooney's been telling him to shoot more and be more assertive for 4 years and he hasn't done it. He's just not wired that way. And maybe our 21 year tenured head coach should have recognized that like 2-3 years ago.

Mike's a starter and a good player. he's never been a guy to hunt his own shot. he's probably happier with a good assist than his own bucket, and there's nothing wrong with that. he's a 5 most guys would like to play with. but on a good team he's the 4th or 5th offensive option.

we do have other good players around him. but we don't have the big guns you need. AJ is close. AA might become that.

The issue with asking for the injury waiver is he played 5 games in November, 4 in December, 2 in January, 1 in February, and 1 in March. But, good luck to him and if the NCAA says yes, I hope he finds a good fit.

Nothing against Walz, but I felt the same way about him that I did/do with Tyne and Tanner ( I know Tanner is back). It was/is just time to move on. We know what these guys brought and we can do better.

Something tells me that this is an agency driven decision. The center position is drawing a premium so why not see if you can get another player on a team and draw a percentage.

The idea of applying for a waiver for an injury that happened 4 years ago to try and play next year after your eligibility has expired is all you need to know about the brokenness of the NCAA. Of course, there is some kid in the portal who is legit trying to play college basketball next season, which will be in his 9th season, so that makes Walz case seem like a slam dunk.
