Jaden Daughtry - Transfer Commit - 2 years of Eligibility

Does not sound great. Mayo clinic and no defined timeline. Indicates they are not quite sure what they are dealing with. Hoping for the best for Jaden.

From a basketball standpoint , while I am high on JRob, he is a freshman and if we don't have Jaden that is a huge blow to our depth. Also, I don't think we have anyone else with post moves like him. Walz can score some, and hopefully has a go to move or two he has developed.

if Daughtry is out at all, I assume we go back to AP first at big forward. he could make a jump.
AP would have to be backed up by either JRob or McGlothin.

... assuming Mooney holds his ground and refuses to play Beagle with Walz.

I think our podcasters seem to think if Daughtry can't go JRob likely the guy. While I think AP can contribute at some level I don't believe he brings the physical assets to impact the game like Jrob. And he could not shoot 3s. And he lost the whole off-season. But yep, in Mooney's world he is probably the incumbent.

I would much rather see JRob playing as well. Obviously I haven’t seen him play as a Spider, but from hearing about last year’s scrimmage and seeing how he presented on the court I think he is the type of player UR needs in the post. AP missing the off season doesn’t help readiness either. Hopefully JRob gets the experience he needs in the OOC schedule.

that would be exciting. he's a high major athlete. would love a rs-freshman in a major role with 4 years left if we can keep him.

Agreed. I saw an entire year of AP and he is not what we need as a starter. If JRob can't seize the starting role over AP, that says something.

AP didn't shoot as well as expected, but he played well. he's tough, and rebounds. he came with a shooter's reputation. I'd like to see more.

This is his 4th year in college ball. He averaged 5 points a game in a starting role last year. I'm not sure where his "shooter's reputation" came from because he scored a grand total of 29 points in 2 years at UConn. Yeah, Hurley said he was a great shooter and I guess that is where that came from. Maybe he shoots well in practice but when he is the game, not so much. My main memories of him last year was that he has the knack of stepping out of bounds more than any other player I've seen at Richmond. If Mooney liked his game so much, he doesn't go out and get Lopez and Daughtry.

I do like his passion and motor though. He would be best served in a reserve role in my opinion.

there's not enough volume for me to argue with Hurley.
and even if Mooney loves AP, he needed a big forward transfer for the roster. Lopez was a totally different need as a 2/3.
we'll see. maybe Daughtry will be good to go. maybe JRob is a monster.
