Game Thread - @ DUQ Saturday 3/7 2pm ESPN+

I’d be surprised it’s in the top4, not so surprised that we’re in hallowed ground.
Halftime of GMU SLU just showed 34,32,31,30 as top 4 but wasn’t up long enough to see the games. I think one was 1950. And one was Duke.

Looks like Kentucky over LSU in 1994 after down 31.

Drexel coming back from 34 down against Delaware in 2018 is the record. Duke came back from 32 down to Tulane in 1950. And in the Mardi Gras Miracle of 1994, Kentucky came back from 31 down to LSU with just 15:34 left in the game.

Not having success finding others larger than ours.

First post the entire season. Haven't paid much attention at all this season. I glanced at TV scoreboard and saw something like 35-10 or something close to that? Thought the boys are playing well and good for them regardless of having Mooney as coach. Just saw 79-77 on computer and instantly thought maybe a prior game not even remembering Duquesne as today's opponent. Going out for night so will see later all the disgraceful details.

Will no doubt check-in next day or so to read plenty of interesting/entertaining posts. Any basketball program that main priority was a successful B-ball team, their AD would release the HC of his duties sometime tomorrow. In this case maybe because of 20+ years, politely say Mooney will become head of B-ball operations though knowing only as a figurehead. Always thought Mooney would make a great politician.

Anyway is there a word greater than debacle to describe what occurred today? Feel for you alum and all die-hard Spiders fans here who have backed the program for far too long without getting the same passion from the leaders in charge of UR achieving basketball excellence!!! 👏

Most ridiculous lost i have witnessed all year. Why put the ball in Johnson's hand vs giving to AJ or AA to drive and at last possession where is Walz to matchup with Dixon and Tyne is in to either get shot over or taken to the hoop. Coach made the lineup and though players did not execute, Mooney chose the cards to play. Thirty point lead and lose. That should make ESPN highlights.

I'm sure its happened before, but I've never heard of a team blowing a 30 point lead ever.

I have posted many times that mooney is the worst coach ever in the last 5 minutes of the game, even when we win
Largest come from behind in A10 history, only 4th time in Div 1 History, only 4th time in 320,000 NCAA Div 1 games. Yeah it has happened before! LOL!

I doubt we rest players, Moon is still concerned with keeping his total wins over his total losses for his career.
Rest players for 5 days stretch. We haven’t won back to back games in the conference after the first week. SMH. Like we are going to get to 5 days. How about win 1 since 2023. Just one let’s not worry about 5 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's hard to win on the road.

"We've been great at taking care of the ball, the game got very physical especially when we had the ball, you need to be able to handle that kind of pressure when there's a difference in intensity. We didn't do a good enough job of that," said UR coach Chris Mooney, whom Spiders vice president and athletic director John Hardt announced Friday will return for his 22nd season at the helm in 2026-27.

"It was a high level of basketball. No matter what happened in the first half, it's always going to be difficult and a challenge. The other team is going to be talented, good and ready to play."

"That's too bad because we played so well in the first half and the beginning of the second half," Mooney said when asked what his message to his team would be ahead of next week's conference tournament.

"You would like to build that momentum, but now it's more of a clean break. We'll just have to get together, get the guys ready for Pittsburgh and our return here on Wednesday."

"We were aggressive, we made some shots early, defensively we were great, I thought we were good defensively, positionally the whole game," Mooney said.

"There were some plays there that we weren't able to defend without fouling enough, and then we weren't able to draw fouls at our end. When you're on the road, it's going to be tough, those things can show up."

"We're small, Mike (Walz) couldn't play for a lot of minutes in the second half, that makes us very small, so there's an obvious thing that teams can do after," Mooney said when asked how the game flipped in the second half, particularly on the glass and in the paint — Duquesne outrebounded UR 18-6 in the second half, with 10 offensive boards leading to 17 second-chance points.

"It's physical in there, you have to do your best. When you're outsized, you're going to give up a few of those for sure. But you really need to come up with your fair share of them to be able to milk the game away."

"The game got very physical"
"We didn't do good enough job handling the pressure and intensity"

No shit Sherlock. YOU COACH THEM ( and all of your teams) TO PLAY SOFT, you idiot! SOFT SOFT SOFT

And where are you Grant Golden with all your "real fans"? Where are all the mooney lovers?
And honestly, anyone who donates any money at all to this program is part of the problem too....ANYONE
