Game Thread - @ DUQ Saturday 3/7 2pm ESPN+

Duquesne is not a bad team at all. I know we’ve had their number over many years, but I don’t think this game is an easy win either. We’re basically locked in the 11 seed. Do we rest players to avoid injury/fatigue for a hopeful 5 day stretch in the A10 tournament?
I doubt we rest players, Moon is still concerned with keeping his total wins over his total losses for his career.

I’m definitely not advocating for that and we should always play every game to win, but from a strategy perspective, we need to also consider keeping our best players healthy and fresh for the A10 tournament which is what matters. So if the game is out of hand or if there is even the slightest concern of a player not 100% healthy then I can see us trying to recover for the tournament. There might also be extra fatigue from travelling to and from Pittsburgh twice in a matter of days.

Flying home right after the game to get in around 7:30pm, returning to Pittsburgh on Monday.

?????? I would think most top 200 programs, if not 300, would stay in Pittsburgh instead of flying back. Makes more sense financially? Really? How much are we saving? A few hundred dollars difference??? Seems like an extra 2 flights would be about the same as a couple nights of hotels and food.

Other reasons? What other reasons could it be? I've got one.....to have another excuse after Duquesne spanks us and puts us in line for a 2nd straight losing season.

Only we would be stupid enough to rest players to get ready for Tuesday's game, while also flying back and forth twice to Pittsburgh instead of staying there.

I wonder what the rationale is. If we fly back after the game Saturday and get back Saturday night, I imagine we would fly to Pittsburgh again either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. I would think Monday to give us a full day rest Tuesday before our game Wednesday. So we’d only have 48 hours in Richmond before leaving again. Makes more sense to just stay there.

This smells like a "see, donors, we just don't have enough money to compete, we can't even afford to stay in Pittsburgh for a couple days, so please give us more NIL so we have a chance for success."

I might have to change my thinking from we are a mid tier CAA program to bottom tier. No question the top half of the CAA's teams would freaking stay in Pittsburgh for a couple days.

This bothers the heck out of me. For the longest time, I disagreed with those that said we aren't a serious program, and don't really care about winning, but the last couple of years it is painfully obvious we aren't and don't. The OOC schedules, the ongoing excuses about everything, and things like this, where we have to fly back for "financial reasons", show we just don't give a crap.

They said they are flying back Monday. We are just a cluster **** of a program right now.

I don't buy the cost thing. So, your telling me that the costs of 2 charter flights, transportation to and from the airport twice is cheaper than 2 additional nights in a hotel. That doesn't add up.

And then the extra travel which you could be using on practice and prep for the game. I bet there is some Mooney family event on Sunday that he doesn't want to miss. The rest of the program revolves around him and his comfort, so it probably isn't too outlandish.

It doesn't matter one way or the other. This year's tourney isn't 5 wins in 5 days...no way.

I'm good with the travel. it's a 2 hr chartered flight ... no hardship there.
makes little sense to sit around in Pittsburgh all that time. The game on Saturday is at 2:00 pm.
Then, why not say something like this instead of feeding us some "financial reasons" BS. I think it makes more sense to stay there, and there is no way we can't afford to stay there a couple days, but financial reasons? When we are now paying for another flight there and back? Not buying that one. Just another excuse. "We seemed a little tired today...didn't quite have the energy we needed".

I’m certain u won’t see this because I’m ignore but my guess is those “financial reasons” are the league pays for some level of team’s travel for the tournament. A guess but seems reasonable.

Bc on surface I agree w 97 the cost of a charter flight (no idea of cost) & associated expenses could be greater than expenses staying in Pitt. Or at least a wash. Especially considering the on campus food options r almost certainly closed for spring break & we’d be catering food for the team.

Tired legs excuse would be a joke. Like don’t finish 11th & play on a freaking Wednesday.

Perhaps it’s part of building a narrative that money is what’s holding us back from being a good team.

Of all the excuse for all the program woes I've heard lately (or not heard as the case may be), the "financial reasons" for not staying in Pittsburgh really takes the cake. I could maybe understand if it were a matter of missing classes for a day or two. But how much could it possibly cost to put up however many people there are in our traveling party for two extra nights?
