For a new coach, how about ...

These are the ranges according to chat gpt - with the caveat that Schertz new deal is for 3.6 annually. We’d be better served to lop a milli off the big guys salary and put that right into NIL.

  2. Josh Schertz (Saint Louis) — ~$2.0–2.3M
  3. Archie Miller (Rhode Island) — ~$1.9–2.1M
  4. Chris Mooney (Richmond) — ~$1.6–1.8M
  5. Mark Schmidt (St. Bonaventure) — ~$1.4–1.6M
  6. Chris Caputo (George Washington) — ~$1.2–1.4M
  7. Darris Nichols (La Salle) — ~$1.1–1.3M

  11. Matt McKillop (Davidson) — ~$0.8–1.0M
  12. Tony Skinn (George Mason) — ~$0.8–1.0M
  13. Mike Magpayo (Fordham) — ~$0.9–1.1M
  14. Drew Valentine (Loyola Chicago) — ~$0.7–0.9M
If the figures are close to accurate, the LoyChi coach at 1/2 of what Mooney makes beat Mooney not once but twice this year. Are we getting our money’s worth? Hardt must think so.

I mean, yeah, he beat Mooney twice, but he also finished dead last in the A-10, had single-digit overall wins, and had top-level NIL available to him.

I think he's good but that program was built by the last guy, who went to Creighton to become coach in waiting. So I'd like to see this guy do it for another year first.
I give the credit to HPU's president. it's not easy to build a school from the ground up. he took a tiny local college and is fund raising and pouring tons of money into the school. he's doing everything right. build it and they will come.

HPU gets hit in the rankings for the most ridiculous reason ... that they hardly have an endowment. that's because they're spending everything to build it. some stuff they spend on is over the top in my opinion. but widely outspending their conference on NIL is a move that is paying off. they got more recognition in the last 4 days than in the last 10 years. barely heard of them until now.

and they way he's spending, I doubt an A10 level team would be able to pry the coach away. a high major, sure.

Another Ben McCollum post but decided to post it here. Look at where the players started their career and McCollum brought to his roster on Iowa and is in the elite 8 year 1. These are kinds of recruits that Richmond could realistically have brought in. It is so obvious that coaching matters. A good coach finds diamond in the rough players and turns them into stars. Mooney tries to find diamond in the rough players and they end up transferring. We have that here at UR with Chemotti taking a bunch of 3 star players and is #2 in the country in MLax and with Roussell who takes players with 0 stars like Doogan who becomes a WNBA caliber player. Why do we have to settle with our flagship sport?

McCollum really should be national coach of the year. The dude just wins. Great coaches win everywhere, like Beilein did. It's why I really want to see Merkel from RMC (a gourmet Beilein assistant) here one day. I don't care if they're D3, they win every year.
