FIRE JOHN P. HARDT

Having PQ take a step back is probably correct, the guy is important for NIL. He just needs to be program-first, coach/AD second.

Speaking of NIL...maybe some of you math heads can clear this up for me. How much interest does a $4 billion endowment fund make in a year? Say conservatively 5% per year, that's $200 million. Roughly $4 million a week. A mere two weeks of interest (and never touching the endowment) going to NIL and we would be competitive.add another week and there's Mooney and Hardt's buyout.
Who the f**k needs PQ?

KICK ALL THREE OF THEM OUT!

I’ve enjoyed your posts and appreciate you sharing your thoughts even if it’s against the grain of this board. I say this as someone who felt a lot of the same way you did 1-2 years ago.

If you weigh all the sports equally than I do think Hardt has done a good job. He definitely gets a check for the Roussell hire and I’ll even give him credit that our lacrosse team has reached an elite level even if he wasn’t responsible for the Chemotti hire. Even with football, things were a little tenuous moving to the PL but turned out to be a good decision (at least not a bad decision) with Villanova and William and Mary joining too.

I also think that under his tenure, we’ve achieved higher academic success and graduation rates that the school appreciates and even as a fan, I do too to some extent.

However, and something I agreed with other posters when I’ve had this discussion in the past, is things are not weighed equally and men’s basketball should by far be our number one priority. Up to this point, I’ve given Hardt the benefit of the doubt particular since I’m sure his hands are tied with PQ. However, the longer this goes on the more I’m going to start blaming him. He put us in this position by giving Mooney a very bad contract extension in 2023-2024 (yes GK I’m acknowledging that it was not a good decision) and now has no way to get us out of it. 3 more years of these results are going to lead to irreparable damage to our men’s basketball program.
That's fair I 100% agree with those comments and believe it or not agree on the contract extension wasn't justified.

If you weigh all sports by their conference TV contract, I’m not sure he has…

One of the most damming things in all of this is that we have gotten no explanation from our athletic department. Just a statement that he’s returning which they didn't even bother to release themselves. I would at least respect the athletic department a little bit more, even if I were to disagree, if they explained themselves or said the quiet part out loud that they don’t care about being good in basketball and his results have been good enough or they don’t want to buy out the contract.

These are the kinds of things I would love for JOC to actually ask and press our administration on as a journalist, but of course we know that it’s not going to happen. Instead he’s going to ask whether we are stopping by Slovenia or Slovakia first as part of our European scouting tour.

I am starting to suspect that we want to go Patriot in all sports and the basketball step back is the reason we haven't, so the solution is to provide support at the Patriot level, and point out how we are getting outspent to set up the move.
No doubt in my mind that this has been considered. The problem is the step down to Patriot League basketball is a canyon like change. The interest level based on attendance is less than our Women’s program by close to 50%. That being said I expect a great reorganization coming in college sports, so there will be other opportunities.
But there is not a single piece of evidence that suggests things even have a possibility of being better next year.
100% agree.
The Mooney announcement is just a big 'ol F___ You to all who are calling for his ouster. Friday night release before the season is even over and zero explanation, zero added insight, zero anything. Just an F you to everyone.
This is the most significant problem. First, Hardt should have refused to answer the question as I am sure he has done in other years. There was no reason to answer the question when he did. Second, I agree that the administration owes better and clearer communications to its fan base. Silence is unacceptable.

Nice to see SpiderWill coming around. In my 15 years on this message board, I believe that this is the first time ever all of the posters are in lock-step. Trolls don't count...

I have been complimentary of Hardt in the past and have viewed him as having a net positive job with our athletics overall (that’s quickly dwindling at this point), but there are 2 things he’s done that have definitely been negative.

1. The contract extension in 2023-2024. I’m in full agreement at this point that it was not only unnecessary but hurts our program more by putting us in a tough position of buying the contract our or not. Had we not given the extension, Mooney would’ve had one final year to see what he can do with a bunch of NIL. If not an NCAA caliber season, we move on. Now, it will raise questions on whether we finish like 21-11 but lose in A10 QFs but did okay in NIT, on whether thats “good enough” for another season that we keep dragging on.

2. The timing of announcing Mooney’s return. I think we can all agree on this. It should not have been done during the women’s A10 basketball game or even this weekend as a detractor to our other sports teams competing. Also the fact it was done while the men’s basketball season is still going on basically tells all of us that he’s not even going to pretend to do a review of Mooney’s performance once having the complete picture. He did not even give us an explanation nor did he make the announcement himself. Whether intended this way or not, it comes across as cowardly. The fact we then lost to a mediocre Duquesne team in historic fashion the very next day was the ultimate karma.
