FIRE JOHN P. HARDT

Even bucknell lost in the first round. Maybe a round a sympathy for Mr Hardt. Looks like the Patriot league might get a Cinderella team from its bracket.

Agree he is a major part of the problem. The seeming friend group dynamic between PQ, Hardt and Mooney clearly puts zero pressure or accountability on getting results in mens basketball. For Richmond to be good again we need Hardt gone, PQ take a step back and of course a new coach.

Yeah he needs to go too. But he won’t cause hes got two successful programs at the moment.
I would say “Define success for us” you would get a very vague response. No goals or expectations really other than well we promote and strive to do the best we can. I am greatful for how well we preform with our resources….

I have been saying I blame him more than Mooney for awhile now. He has overseen the decline of a once proud program into a bottom tier A-10 program and has done absolutely nothing to help make it better OR hold anyone accountable. So, we need to hold him accountable!

That also won't happen and I am completely demoralized about the state of Men's basketball at UR. We stink and its been headed this way for awhile and nothing from the admin says anything other than that this is totally ok. I am starting to suspect that we want to go Patriot in all sports and the basketball step back is the reason we haven't, so the solution is to provide support at the Patriot level, and point out how we are getting outspent to set up the move. Note too the language used - - it doesn't say we are underfunded - - it says others are outspending us. Implication is: We are spending appropriately but others are spending recklessly and woe is us, we can't compete. And then the losses become more palatable because you then say how we have to go Patriot to escape the purgatory we find ourselves in!

I am disgusted overall - - I could stomach losing if I actually thought we cared and were honestly trying (not just hoping) to get it turned around. But there is not a single piece of evidence that suggests things even have a possibility of being better next year. Our returning group of players (even including AA who may not return) isn't very good or very deep, the coach will be the same; outside of getting lucky with King, we have been a portal train wreck with no reason to think its will be different; our HS recruiting hasn't been good outside of an isolated success here and there in years and next years schedule will absolutely look exactly like this years because the only we can try to put lipstick on the pig that our program has become is trying to pile up meaningless wins against the dregs of the sport! No mention from Hardt in the "Moon will be back" commentary about him having to be better or even an expressed hope that we will be better (even a baseless one). Just "He will be back for more of this same sh_t."

This is now Richmond basketball. What we have seen the last two years is what you get. Thats it - - this is all there is. Our new normal. Most heartbreaking of all is that no one (no one that matters anyway) appears to give a damn. I am sure they'd all rather win than lose but beyond the naked hope, the fact that we aren't raises no concerns for anyone! How is it that many on this board can be so disheartened and emotionally invested but the guys responsible don't care and don't even think they owe the passionate even the thinnest of explanations. The Mooney announcement is just a big 'ol F___ You to all who are calling for his ouster. Friday night release before the season is even over and zero explanation, zero added insight, zero anything. Just an F you to everyone.

Having PQ take a step back is probably correct, the guy is important for NIL. He just needs to be program-first, coach/AD second.

Mods this guy has to be a troll, either that or clinically insane beyond saving
Not interested in getting into a personal debate or attack but i'm neither. I'm gainfully employed and I think even keeled and all there and i gave when i introduced myself a bit on my background . Not a troll either, though i am a fan of the sport and not a jaded Spiders fan.

You can lose the personal attacks, bro

I’ve enjoyed your posts and appreciate you sharing your thoughts even if it’s against the grain of this board. I say this as someone who felt a lot of the same way you did 1-2 years ago.

If you weigh all the sports equally than I do think Hardt has done a good job. He definitely gets a check for the Roussell hire and I’ll even give him credit that our lacrosse team has reached an elite level even if he wasn’t responsible for the Chemotti hire. Even with football, things were a little tenuous moving to the PL but turned out to be a good decision (at least not a bad decision) with Villanova and William and Mary joining too.

I also think that under his tenure, we’ve achieved higher academic success and graduation rates that the school appreciates and even as a fan, I do too to some extent.

However, and something I agreed with other posters when I’ve had this discussion in the past, is things are not weighed equally and men’s basketball should by far be our number one priority. Up to this point, I’ve given Hardt the benefit of the doubt particularly since I’m sure his hands are tied with PQ. However, the longer this goes on the more I’m going to start blaming him. He put us in this position by giving Mooney a very bad contract extension in 2023-2024 (yes GK I’m acknowledging that it was not a good decision) and now has no way to get us out of it. 3 more years of these results are going to lead to irreparable damage to our men’s basketball program.
