750K for AA for 1 year seems really steep. I really like AA but also I thought as we got into conference play, his play diminished from the OOC when we were playing 13 little sisters of the poor.

He is still our best player by a long shot and we needed to retain him but the price only for a 1 year commitment seems high. We need to bring in a tall SG now. We can't run two little guys like we did this year at the guard position with the way Mooney like to defend. It will continue to get us killed. Tyne needs to move on, he is no longer an asset, especially with the incoming freshman shorter guard.

I don't disagree with most of what you said. However, NIL and portal added dimensions reflect 1) supply vs demand, 2) relative value and 3) willingness to pay a given amount. People may disagree on any of these 3 points as well as other variables, but players are going to continue to get big and increasing dollars until there are either long term controls set into place and / or the marketplace levels out.

If I had to bet right now, I'd have to believe that AA & Tyne are Moon's starting guards next year.

I'm sort of assuming that part of the "selling" that we did to have AA accept the offer was 1) he will start and play 30+minutes and 2) we're spending a good amount of money bringing more talent it which to me basically as 97 also said we need a 6'5 or so SG not Tyne even though I hope Mykel sticks around and accepts fewer minutes but gets a UR degree.

I tend to value talent over size, but agree we need legit sized guard at the two. But could see Mooney going with Simmons (or Tyne) next to AA. Especially difficult with our defensive scheme, or lack thereof.

I saw some very good small guards in the tournament over the weekend, often the best player on their team. Didn’t look to see if there were any 2-small-guard lineups though

Highlights were the high point guard and the Vanderbilt guard
Vanderbilt: starting guards Tanner 6'0" and Miles 6'2" is as small as I saw
High Point: starting guards are Martin 5'10" and Washington 6'4".

Tanner and Martin were great.

we started Johnston at the SG all year, so maybe Mooney has seen the need for more size. not sure if he ever played Tyne with AA. could start Thomas or Harper next to AA. but if Simmons is one of our best, I do want him getting time.

I noticed that as well. You can get away with one small guard (particularly if they are really dynamic), but 2 is one too many.
I think the issue is there are just so many better all around basketball players now than 10 years ago. Even than 6 years ago when we had success with Jacob and Blake. There are more 6'3 and 6'4 do it all guards now at all levels. Mid majors are loaded with them, and we are still trying to win with 2 small guards. I don't have a lot of confidence that we will get that 6'4 stud that a lot of
teams we play has.

I too agree we need a larger SG to compliment AA in starting lineup. But my thinking is that CM has a copyright on small guards, and I find it hard to believe Moon will drop Tyne off starting lineup even though he did for a game or 2 this year. Once AA returned from injury didn’t Tyne still start rest of season? Maybe CM will prove me wrong.

Argabright aside, I have to imagine that most guys are going to want more money to play for us as opposed to a similar program that wins. Would you rather play for $600k at Dayton or vcu or the same amount here? That's how Mooney has tied his own hand behind his back at this point. He probably needs $750k to sign a kid who would sign elsewhere for $600k.
No question about it. We are not an attractive basketball destination and very easy to recruit against right now. We had a chance to keep the momemtum going after our year with Jordan King, and I was hoping Mooney would be able to use the advantage of King's great year to get someone like him in here, but the guards he brought in were B Artis White and GW3. Ouch!!

Mooney will probably keep Tyne as our other guard because that is what he does and we will be a .500 ballclub next because of it. It is the easy solution for Mooney and loves him some easy solutions. He doesn't have to go out and pound the payment to get a taller guard who will give us an edge, he doesn't have to tell Tyne, sorry, but you aren't playing major minutes anymore.

Mark this down but if you guard room next year is AA, Tyne, Thomas, Harper and the new smallish freshman, we are effing screwed, no matter that quality of wing and centers we bring in.

I think we'd all be surprised if all we do is fill in the 2 open spots. while I don't think there will be high demand for our returners, half of the basketball universe transfers these days. I expect we'll be filling some holes.

if the numbers thrown around are accurate, we'll be spending a good amount. but we're just catching up to the top of the A10 level of NIL. I'm not getting crazy thinking we're going to land studs that the big boys want. those guys play in a different pool with a different level of funding.

the numbers are pretty mind boggling. 99% of these kids won't have NBA careers. and the ones who play in Europe will never make close to the money they're currently making in college.
