I think we'd all be surprised if all we do is fill in the 2 open spots. while I don't think there will be high demand for our returners, half of the basketball universe transfers these days. I expect we'll be filling some holes.

if the numbers thrown around are accurate, we'll be spending a good amount. but we're just catching up to the top of the A10 level of NIL. I'm not getting crazy thinking we're going to land studs that the big boys want. those guys play in a different pool with a different level of funding.
True. And they don't even need to be big time studs. Look at Malachi Smith. Good player at Dayton, but they probably couldn't afford him, and UCONN likely paid him a lot for him to average 3.5 a game for them.

probably "worth it" for the payday. could be life changing money.
but he went from being such an important part of a really good team to being a role player on a great team.
can't blame him for betting on himself. similar to Tyler Burton here.

watching St. John’s fight through every screen and never switch for an entire game and hold down Kansas all game was beautiful. Imagine playing with that kind of defensive edge and desire.
sure, but I was yelling "switch that!" when Florida inexplicably got screened on the full court press with a man defending the inbounder up 2 with 8.9 seconds left against Iowa. one second later it's a 3 on 2 with shooters in the corners.

100%. Take the money. No question about it.

I didn't have Fla. in my final four, so I liked that. I also liked it when the guy left the guy who made the 3 wide open when he helped on the ball. Never, never, never leave your guy there when up 2. Never.

the numbers are pretty mind boggling. 99% of these kids won't have NBA careers. and the ones who play in Europe will never make close to the money they're currently making in college.
Exactly, which is why I believe this is not a sustainable market. The current players are in the “gold rush” stage of college basketball and at some point there will be a correction. It may well be that there will still be some players making the low end NBA type money, but that will be when there is a split in D1 basketball similar to football. I agree with @Spide who described the split in another post. It is coming, the question is where various teams land and when.

Just with this year’s tournament you can see that artificial lines are already been drawn and the powers that be are working to force out the Big East and I daresay ACC is next. However, where conferences land doesn’t preclude the teams from being shifted. I truly hope this happens sooner than later because I am not a fan of the yearly fantasy draft style team formation that is currently ruling the landscape.

Iowa had carved up Florida’s press a lot but to follow the man instead of going behind the pick/curl was epically stupid move. As was leaving the 3 point shooter up 2. They got an odd man rush off an inbounds and two dribbles. Coaching has to change the press to that specific scenario.

Florida had 4 different plays to basically win the game last minute and went 0-4 in execution.

That said, I HATE the overturn on slo mo instant replay. That call at 1m mark is Florida ball on the spirit of the play for 100 years and for first 39m of the game. Only last minute replay is it ever Iowa ball. Common sense refereeing applies except in slo mo replay. My solution is to propose a rule that when ball is slapped out by a defender it’s only defense ball if there is a double touch by the offense. Offensive man is always last to touch bc they are holding the ball. But they did not knock it oob. Replay rule is severely flawed.

I agree and have said the same thing. It is always off the offense unless a double touch, or the defense (very rarely) follows through enough on the slap out and is last to touch. The defense caused the ball to go out so call it during replay like u do for the first 39 minutes and keep it with the offense.

Another issue I have is on out of bounds plays when a foul causes the guy to lose the ball out of bounds. So, since they can look at replay and make a judgment call on out of bounds, why not let them make a judgement call on if a foul caused the ball to go out of bounds? Best example is on a missed FT. The guy 2nd in the lane comes over the back and makes contact with the guy 1st in lane, causing ball to go out on the 1st guy. Instead of calling a foul, they just give the ball to the 1st guy's team for the first 39 minutes of the game and all is fine. Then, when it gets looked at late on review, they see it is off the 1st guy, so the rules give the ball to the 2nd guy's team, even though it is obvious a foul call was missed and caused this. If it is an obvious foul call they missed, and that foul call caused the ball to go out of bounds, let them call a foul after replay!!! Or, if they don't want to call a foul after replay for whatever reason, at least after reviewing let them be able to say...." after review, the ball was off of guy 1, but enough contact from guy 2 caused this, so we will keep the ball with team 1 ( like they do on my FT example the first 39 minutes of the game).

100 percent on the no foul / oob calls. Refs give it to the one team as a courtesy of not calling fouls on the other. Yet then have to overturn their obviously wrong courtesy calls on challenges. They should be able to determine something like that even if they are not allowed to retroactively call a foul. Call it “illegal contact caused the oob” or something and call stands.

LOL - just noticed this thread title and initial post about AA returning have been updated to "Deleted - inaccurate." Who could have seen this coming??

You dont get a chance to make this much money in chunks like this very often, if at all. The other team's may have upped the offer.
