Chris Mooney - Head Coach

Thanks @Spider17 for posting. Not having to do any searching myself for these things 😀

I think there is some good insight into what Mooney is pitching and how UR is approaching its team building in this interview.

Long story short, Mooney and staff are playing the long game and the key is to identify and sign A10 caliber HS players that want to play at one spot and get a quality education (along with whatever direct pay is available). This is the “A” recruiting list. Then if you don’t get enough players from the target list then supplement from the portal with a preference on multiple years of eligibility.

The problem of course has been the HS recruiting has been too weak. Haven’t been able to identify and sign players that can be foundations for such a team. I have blind faith that last year’s redshirts are a step in the right direction. Have no idea about this year’s class. Will the strategy work? I guess we will find out in 2-3 years.

My Dad always told me there are two certainties in life - death and taxes. I think there is a third - Mooney as the UR coach. So we have plenty of time to watch this play out.

Per a release that doesn't appear to actually be on the UR site.

Dollar still not listed on the staff list, and no replacement for him as DOBO apparently. And if he is an assistant GM, who is the head GM? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Maybe Jim Merritt who isn’t called a GM but seems to have the responsibilities of one? Richmond named him Associate Athletics Director of Basketball Development.

Not that I know what Dollar’s skill set is, but he seems like a very strange choice.

Yeah, could be Merritt, but please make the titles line up then.

Some of the GM role can overlap with DOBO responsibilities, like scheduling, player development, and recruiting, but yeah, he doesn't have a lengthy résumé when it comes to NIL and fundraising type stuff. But that's probably more Merritt's focus.

yeah I talked to Jim a bit at an event recently and it sounded to me that is focusing on the fundraising and money side versus anything really to do with basketball operations. But do find the wording of the announcement odd since don't think we're seen anyone/Jim called the GM at this point.
