At Davidson

I agree that we can’t make assumptions on if AA will transfer based off our season’s results and what discussion will be had with the staff. Same way we can’t assume McGlothin will transfer because of lack of playing time. It would be foolish to think that other teams haven’t reached out to AA’s agent or the the thought hasn’t crossed his mind either though. So it is a possibility and so keeping him here is priority #1 this off season.

of course it's possible. and I get that you'd leave. but the kid has said nothing public nor acted in any way that I know of to indicate he wants to bail.
right, I don’t think he’s thinking about bailing, but when a random p5 offers him a bag, he’ll just go. When was the last time a Richmond player transferred and had signs that he was leaving? It’s just something that happens

They did interview Mooney and AA after the game, it's linked here. (FF to the end of the broadcast.) Mooney sounded pretty upbeat for a coach who just got his ass served to him on a platter yet again. I feel bad for AA. Kid is a warrior.
He has sounded upbeat all year. So frustrating to see as a fan, although my interest level has gotten so low this year, I am more in not caring mode than frustrated mode. But, how can a coach sound so upbeat when his team won 8 D1 games last year, is 4-10 in the A-10 this year, and has lost 8 of its last 9 games?

Of course he hasn't and no one wants him to leave. But, no player is gonna say publicly or act in a way during the season that they want to leave.

I wouldn't leave if I were him, at least not after this year to a power school. I don't think there are guarantees for him moving up, and he could get passed by someone. But, laterally is always an option, and the more we lose and the more it looks like next year is gonna be another bad one, I would think any real good player would at least consider other possibilities.

I agree we can't assume anything, but if we can guess, my guess is AA stays and has a great year next year as our leading scorer, and then has a much more interesting decision to make that off season, especially if we still stink. McGlothin I see transferring down, but, just my opinion and not assuming anything.

no matter what we feel about CM's offensive system, there's no denying that it's ideal for a small guard. too much history to question that. so that should be a draw for AA. he's set up to succeed here.

not knowing what his NIL situation is, it's clear he's exceeded expectations this year so we have to increase him. and we have to show him that we'll do what it takes to add talent around him.

we can only hope he really likes UR and that he believes in some of his returning teammates ... and Mooney.

Thanks. But no video. Normally link to video in recap story which goes straight to that. Having only audio off radio broadcast that u have to dig to get and fast forward to find is bush league.
Ask and you shall receive...

Exactly my thoughts as well.

I know I started this with AA. Just feel the kid played for one of the best college basketball programs in the country and is used to winning and winning big. He can look at the roster and see 60% of our starting line up graduating, both centers, known of our returning players (except him) are A-10 level starters, so next year looks to be a repeat of this year possibly worse right now. He also looks at the opportunity to play in big games too and with our new OOC scheduling does the thought of playing 11 Longwoods to start the season entice him, probably not.

I don't know with his size if he would get the minutes and opportunity he has here at a P5 school, but certainly at a Dayton, VCU, SLU program, he knows he could start and play for a team with legit aspirations for an NCAA bid. VCU obviously stands out because he gets to stay home and play in front of his family.

I'm just saying, if I'm AA, that is what I would be thinking right now. And we've lost 8 of 9 and your coach is giving praise about the team in postgame interviews. For damn sure, I bet he never heard that from a coach at any level in his basketball career.

And not asking for him to sound defeated. To me, it's not that hard. If asked about the comeback, u say, yes, we played well during that stretch, BUT....we need a lot buts from him. Talk about the comeback for a couple seconds and fhen move on. Don't mention how proud you are when we lose. We might look like it sometimes when we lose to freaking Ch Southern and Elon, but we are not a 300+ NET team from the 30th best conference. Stop acting like we are when we lose.

How about...But, we need to start better and it's my job as coach to fix that. Or, but....we need to play that way for 40 minutes and it's my job as a coach to fix that. Or, but....no one is happy with the losing. We need to win these games and it's my job as the coach to get us in the right situations to do that. And several other comments that would be so much better than the same crap we hear after every loss.

Exactly. I don't doubt that he is upset when we lose games, but damn man, show a little of that! Otherwise it just looks to everyone like you don't really care, especially when you talk about all the things we need to do more consistently, and then we never do any of them. It just feels like lip service from a guy who's pulling down $1.5 million a year to be terrible at what he does. It's giving "I've mentally checked out" vibes.

He's got 3 years left on a contract that will pay him well probably one way or another, he's got little accountability, and he's got a few pals that unfortunately matter & are in his corner. Why on earth the basketball stuff makes him feel upbeat is either mind boggling or just a public persona.

It really is looking like he has checked out. That is why I still wonder if he might be done after a 20 point loss, 1st game A-10 tourney exit. All of this losing the past 2 seasons. Bad, bad, ugly losses all over the schedule. Early season, mid season, late season. Have we seen anything different? No!!! Not even a few tweaks. It's just the same stuff that doesn't work. Every game it is way too easy for our opponents to score, and way too hard for us to score. It's just crazy that this keeps happening over and over.

Now 4 years since an NCAA appearance, after an 11 year absence.* The bad looks are piling up, but the former coaches doing color commentary sure are there to remind anyone how great a job he's doing. Discussed this in that UVa thread, but I really think the vast majority of non-UR fans have no idea of the facts and how little Moon has accomplished in winning. The Davidson tweet acts like we've been great forever and fell off a cliff. It's more like we are slowly sinking in quicksand.

*(I'm just assuming we won't win 4 or 5 games in the A10 tourney.)

He sounds upbeat because he TRULY BELIEVES HE IS DOING A GOOD JOB. And this is the best he can do in the circumstances. The guy has the character of a sly fox. He has been in survival mode for 10 years and his only objective is self preservation.

He's an intelligent kid. He hears Mooney whining about how hard it is to win, how we don't have enough money, blah, blah, blah. I wouldn't want a coach who is constantly whining and making excuses.

I hear these announcers keep talking about how we are running a version of the Princeton offense, and I guess that is what we "try" to run, but teams know this and take us out of it right away. Our reaction is to pass the ball around the perimeter, and end up with a low percentage 2 point shot as the clock is winding down. Not sure any Princeton offense ever wanted that. No back doors, very few open 3s, no drives to the basket, tough 2s....seriously, what the F are we running out there?

Yep, he is young but he wasn't born yesterday.

I am guessing the Martelli Family Mafia (not be confused with #FMM Fire Mooney Mafia) already has feelers out. You want to play for up and coming coach. Check. You want to play for a top mid major program that does have connections to play top teams in the OOC. Check. What ever they are offering NIL, we will up by 100K. Check. You want real fans not #RealFans. Check.

We keep keeping on with Mooney and we deserve what we get.

4700 - I made a similar point at some point this season. The back door layup we get every other game gets called out by the announcers too - wow there is the Princeton offense. Very hard to defend. Right. I actually liked what we doing very early in the season - which seemed to be quick ball movement and shoot the first open 3. Again, may have been the competition, but heck I posted numbers early in the season and we must have had 4 guys shooting 45% from 3 for awhile. Seems like right after Belmont we began to revert. That game turned out to be fools gold.
