Wondering if there might be a Dennis Parker sighting on campus?
yeah, that was a really big comment. looking at the team, I don't see anyone I thought wasn't going 100%. but he's on the inside and would know.A couple interesting things from the AA interview.
1. AA said that not everyone was giving maximum effort last year. That was pretty profound.
Not going to comment on entire post, but one statement is just so ill informed. Harper is extremely athletic and handles the ball very well. Moreover he is one of the best shooters on the team. Could easily be the 6’5” shooting guard we covet.A couple interesting things from the AA interview.

2. BB and Matt stating that the next highest priorities on our roster were to retain Harper and Robinson. Shows you how devoid our roster is of talent. IMO, Harper is Collin Tanner with a slightly better jumper but not as good as rebounder, but not an athletically gifted player. Robinson is insanely athletically gifted but has problems with the basketball skill side of the game and Mooney can't seem to find him a place on the roster that fits his skill set (which looks like highlight dunks is that skill set). Look at VCU and SLU roster and tell me that Robinson or Harper even sniffs time on either of those teams.
I also laughed were Bob said that of course Aiden will be starting next year. So, our number 1 target to return and obvious starter for next year, but yet wasn't starting this year. No mention of our incumbent PG, Tyne, and his status.

Yes, this is crazy sometimes how we have guys that just so focused on running the offense. Unless they are a KA, or a Gonzo, or an AA now. Why can't the other guys look to attack and take opportunities. That definitely seems to be a coaching issue. I saw a qoute recently from a high level coach, which basically said you run the offense to get looks/opportunities, and it doesn't matter if that opportunity is on the first pass or whatever. I use to coach this in travel teams, every time you catch it you should be looking to see if you can drive it or throw it to an open guy under the basket, not looking for the next pass out. Simple concept but something we see wrong with Mooney coached teams over and over and over and over and over and over, time and time and time again. Year afer year after year after year. A guy like Walz, prime example. Either looking for next pass on perimeter or B) forcing a pass to basket cutter that was not there. 4 year guy. Smart guy. But Mooney programmed guy.Harper’s 3 point jumper passes the eye test for being far superior to Tanner’s as does his gunner mentality. We need guys willing to gun sometimes, instead of looking to make the next safe/non-threatening pass.
We can agree to disagree on the athleticism. I would say go watch VCU, SLU, Dayton guard/wing players and their level of athleticism and then compare that to Harper. He has slow twitch muscles just Tanner. Not going to comment on entire post, but one statement is just so ill informed. Harper is extremely athletic and handles the ball very well. I'd really love to know who he was referring to. I agree I didn't see it outwardly, but you don't say that unless their is truth behind it.yeah, that was a really big comment. looking at the team, I don't see anyone I thought wasn't going 100%. but he's on the inside and would know.
Tanner and Harper both shot the 3 ball, the same 29%. Tanner was a much more efficient scorer from 2 than was Harper as well. But yet, we all think Tanner needs to move on and is not a starter level player on our team.Harper’s 3 point jumper passes the eye test for being far superior to Tanner’s
Mooney?I'd really love to know who he was referring to. I agree I didn't see it outwardly, but you don't say that unless their is truth behind it.
First of all he said “in some games” and I don’t know if it was the same person over and over or different players. When a team has a losing season it is only human nature to have a degree of a letdown and is especially easy for the guys that were in their final year of college ball. I think in general the players did give a high level of effort, but the high amount of subbing and losing took its toll.I'd really love to know who he was referring to. I think Spide is saying Harper is a really good shooter, not that he shot especially well this year.We can agree to disagree on the athleticism. But one of the best shooters on the team. Statistically, Harper was our worst shooter of all of our guards and it wasn't particulary close.
FG% 3%
Harper 33 29
Tyne 39 39
Lopez 47 39
AA 42 35
Thomas 44 42
I do like his handle and do like that he is not afraid to shoot it. And I will say at least he didn't redshirt which we all know is where Mooney hides the recruiting misses. He is young and was injured for a part of the season, so not saying he might not develop into a better player, but outside of the St. Louis game I didn't see a player that has upper A-10 level starter abilities.
Guessing just joking around here 4ever. If Parker was looking to move, Moon would have to recuse himself due to the Chu connection.Wondering if there might be a Dennis Parker sighting on campus?

missing a walk through was a big mistake. addressed appropriately. Not jumping to conclusions, but we did have a guy benched for a game for missing a walk through and another starter who appeared to be a scorer who just seemed to chose not to try and throw the ball near the basket for multiple long stretches of games.
I will defer to your scouting report in terms of Harper's athleticism. I'm more concerned from a broader view at how Mooney (and his "system") utilizes guys that are athletic. After watching a ton of basketball last week one of the many things that stood out was how aggressive and decisive the guard play was (and of course the tenacious way that most of the tournament teams attacked the boards). Yes, many of these power 5 teams have bigger, stronger players than UR but even the small guards were attacking the basket and playing with strength and aggression (See VCU in the 2nd half against UNC, etc). I just think Mooney has our players overthinking everything and it's another reason why we tend to play tight over the last 2-3 minutes of a game. I know my thoughts can just be added to the negative chorus but I don't see a ton of hope with this current HC.I think Spide is saying Harper is a really good shooter, not that he shot especially well this year.
5-17 is too small of a sample to say he's not a shooter, just like 8-17 would have been too small a sample to say he's a lights out shooter.
he also looks plenty athletic to me.
This. 17 shots is not a sample size when each make/miss adjusts his % by 6 percentage points. One more make and he’s fine at 35 two more makes and he’s lights out at 41%? Not really. AP had big sample size to show he cannot shoot in game situations. Harper not so much.I think Spide is saying Harper is a really good shooter, not that he shot especially well this year.
