Thanks for the updates @SFspidur.Rough night for the A-10, with only Bona and Fordham taking care of business. As mentioned in the A-10 thread, GW with a terrible loss to a bad Delaware team that was coming off a loss to Delaware State for the Hornets' first D-I win of the season, while VCU missed out on a quality win opportunity in coming up just short against New Mexico. And Duquesne is on its way to a loss against Boise State (edit: confirmed).
Just two games on the OOC slate, and both "Southern" schools came out on top. Southern Illinois dismantled a UT Martin team that has at least looked decent this season including a win over Bradley.
12/9
Non-conference (2–0. 1–0 D-I vs D-I)
- Southern Virginia (D-III) 95, Randolph (D-III) 87
- Southern Illinois 83, UT Martin 54
A-10 (2–3)
- Boise State 86, Duquesne 64
- New Mexico 81, VCU 78
- Bona 85, Colgate 77
- Delaware 70, GW 58
- Fordham 75, Fairleigh Dickinson 54
But now our second game as an underdog this season may be in Olean…GW might have been way overrated. Delaware sucks.
yeah a very good game, but you got to win that game if you are Rhode island. You get that high of a NET team into your own building.Rothstein is such an idiot. So worried about his stupid brutality quote that he doesn't even realize McNeese is 8-2 with a 53 NET. And, I doubt this was even a buy game.
Yeah, McNeese is solid. Not a bad loss for sure. I'm sure also a game Rhody and the league would have loved to have though.Rothstein is such an idiot. So worried about his stupid brutality quote that he doesn't even realize McNeese is 8-2 with a 53 NET. And, I doubt this was even a buy game.
In my book McNeese St doesn’t exactly qualify for his favorite treatment. I do understand that losing a game where there is a payment is less than ideal, but this one isn’t in the same vein to me. Plus, I just find it old and tired. He needs new content. It generally emphasizes the worst of the bad losses. Paying a team ~$100k and then also taking the L isn't ideal.
McNeese won 28 games last year, and beat Clemson in the dance. Seems crazy this would be a buy game and not a home and home. RI AD should offer home and home before paying them. I would think a road game at a high NET McNeese team would make sense. And, you don't have to spend $.McNeese may be good, but it's still probably a buy game. I doubt URI is making the return trip to Louisianna.
My question would be why are u paying them? If your arena is half full, why pay such a good team like McNeese? Maybe they did pay them, but seems like a bad decision and money not well spent if they did.Agreed, I would bet on it indeed being a buy game for Rhody. Team quality doesn't factor into the rules of brutality, but people continue to not understand that. Regardless, they're still games you really rather not lose. I mean, maybe if you could convince a big-name team to come in and you can sell out your arena and take an L, but that doesn't happen these days. So instead you're paying McNeese for a game where your arena is less than half full, and you still lose.
Some schools can get a new coach and new players and not miss a beat.I am surprised McNeese is any good this season. Oh, you can lose a coach and get another good one...hmmmm. Anyway, not know who replaced him, but they lost Wade and I think he took top 2 players with him to state. Rhody just had a bad 20 point loss to what looks like another mediocre Kim English Providence team.
I think the rationale is to avoid the return trip to Louisiana next year and the cost for doing so.My question would be why are u paying them? If your arena is half full, why pay such a good team like McNeese? Maybe they did pay them, but seems like a bad decision and money not well spent if they did.
They did home and homes with Ga St and Milwaukee in 22 and 23. Maybe they did agree to a home and home with McNeese. Do we definitely know they didn't? Not sure it makes sense to avoid the cost of a trip next year, but still pay McNeese for their trip this year. Why not just home and home if you are gonna do that?I think the rationale is to avoid the return trip to Louisiana next year and the cost for doing so.
I read that McNeese had only played URI once before ... at URI 12 years ago.
