2025–26 opponent tracking

Decent night for the A-10 with VCU taking out South Florida and Rhody handling Temple. Then there's Loyola. And Duquesne killing time playing a D-II.

Ugly night for the OOC side other than Belmont taking their MTE title with a win over Toledo. Everybody else lost, several of them badly.

Non-conference (1–5)
- Bowling Green 81, VMI 48
- Navy 84, Gardner-Webb 51
- Memphis 74, Southern Illinois 58

Well, the Spiders ruined a good day for the A-10, as Dayton rebounded from giving up a huge lead in regulation to beat the Hoyas in OT, while SLU snuck past Santa Clara and Bona beat ECU. The only blemish aside from the Spiders was VCU falling to Vandy, which I'm okay with.

On the OOC side, the only game was the other semi in our tournament, where Illinois State defeated Charlotte.

11/27

Non-conference (0–1)
- Illinois State 79, Charlotte 69

A-10 (3–1)
- Vandy 89, VCU 74
- Bona 67, ECU 58
- SLU 71, Santa Clara 70
- Dayton 84, Georgetown 79 (OT)

Furman closes out the first half on a 10-0 run and is up 36-33 on Illinois State in the championship game of the prestigious Terry’s Chocolate Imagination bracket.

Couple of missed opportunities for the A-10 tonight with Stanford hitting a three with under a second to go to take down SLU and Dayton falling just short against BYU after leading by 6 at the half. VCU did have a beatdown of Tech. Oh, and Fordham beat a D-II by a bucket.

It was an 0-for-3 day on the OOC side, though Charleston Southern fought valiantly against South Carolina, as it was a tie game with a little over 12 minutes to go before SC pulled away.

11/28

Non-conference (0–3)
- SE Louisiana 76, Gardner-Webb 68
- Illinois State 72, Furman 65
- South Carolina 74, Charleston Southern 62

A-10 (3–3, 2–3 vs D-I)
- VCU 86, Virginia Tech 68
- Hofstra 63, La Salle 58
- Davidson 90, NC A&T 74
- Fordham 74, Franklin Pierce (D-II) 72
- Stanford 78, SLU 77
- BYU 83, Dayton 79

2–1 today for the A-10 with Mason cruising past our exhibition opponent JMU and Fordham blowing out Albany. Alas for La Salle, the Explorers blew a 15-point second-half lead and lost to Penn by a bucket.

Our OOC opponents were disappointing again today, with only Southern Illinois picking up a win, while VMI and Gardner-Webb got stomped and Elon fell to Mercer.

11/29

Non-conference (1–3)
- UCF 82, VMI 57
- UNCW 88, Gardner-Webb 62
- Southern Illinois 74, Little Rock 65
- Mercer 91, Elon 84

A-10 (2–1)
- Mason 82, JMU 66
- Penn 73, La Salle 71
- Fordham 88, Albany 68

Bonus exhibition opponent (0–1)
- Mason 82, JMU 66

La Salle goes 0–3 in its MTE, falling to Merrimack today after losing to Hofstra and Penn over the previous two days. St Joe's beats a Princeton squad that doesn't look to be of the quality we're used to seeing out of them, and Bona becomes the second straight A-10 team to beat FAU. And oh yeah, Fordham lost to Colgate.

In a battle of Spider opponents, W&M topped ODU, while The Citadel got routed by Presby. And as mentioned in our game thread, Belmont coasted by Charleston to move to 8–0 on the season.

11/30

Non-conference (2–2)
- W&M 88, ODU 75
- Belmont 96, Charleston 73 - a total of 14 Bruins saw the court, but no Noyes
- Presbyterian 69, The Citadel 41

A-10 (2–2)
- Merrimack 66, La Salle 60
- St Joe's 60, Princeton 58
- Colgate 72, Fordham 62
- Bona 70, FAU 65

Dukes came back to take a 5 point lead, but now W&M is up 4 with 99 seconds to play.

Oh, and Loyola is down 8 at the half to NET 284 Central Michigan.

Tribe gets the win over Duquesne, and Loyola is up 10 on CMU. Let’s see if they can hold on over the final 5 minutes.

I got a day off thanks to no impact games yesterday, but back at it today with a busy slate.

A very solid day for the A-10 with only the Dukes falling to W&M, so even that had a silver lining for us. SLU–Loyola Marymount is only at the half out west, but the Billikens have a big lead. (Edit: SLU ultimately cruised to a 91–70 win.)

Our OOC opponents were almost equally as impressive with ECU, Charlotte, and of course W&M picking up wins and only Charleston Southern taking an L. Even Southern Virginia got into the act with a win tonight.

12/2

Non-conference (4–1, 3–1 D-I vs D-I)
- Southern Virginia (D-III) 95, Warren Wilson (D-III) 73
- ECU 68, UMES 56
- W&M 83, Duquesne 79
- Charlotte 74, NC A&T 57
- UT Martin 73, Charleston Southern 56

A-10 (6–1)
- GW 84, Army 70
- Mason 99, Cornell 81
- Rhody 66, Brown 56
- W&M 83, Duquesne 79
- Dayton 88, ETSU 71
- Loyola 83, Central Michigan 72
- SLU 91, Loyola Marymount 70

The only other A-10 game today was Bona beating up on D-II Bloomsburg to move to 8–1.

On the OOC side, two of our opponents faced off with Furman taking down Elon, while Southern Illinois edged a solid High Point squad. Oh, and Gardner-Webb fell to 0–10 after getting destroyed by Queens.

12/3

Non-conference (2–2)
- Queens 107, Gardner-Webb 74
- Furman 97, Elon 88
- Southern Illinois 86, High Point 84

A-10 (1–0, 0–0 vs D-I)
- Bona 83, Bloomsburg (D-II) 43

Bonus exhibition opponent (1–0)
- JMU 67, NC Central 62

I know we have the NET out now and I missed a week due to Thanksgiving, but I'm still interested in tracking movements in the KenPom rankings, so here's another A-10 edition.

The very top of the conference continues to edge upwards, though GW has slipped a bit with the losses to McNeese and Murray State even though they weren't terrible ones. NET and KenPom differ a bit, but you've got a group of 4–5 on the edge of contention for bids if they can continue to move upward.

The middle of the conference including us is holding pretty steady. The NET looks much more favorably upon this group than KenPom at the moment, with NET having URI/UR/Davidson/Bona in the 70s and 80s while KenPom has us in the 95–125 range.

The bottom of the conference continues to sag, with Loyola's drop of 191 spots from their preseason ranking being particularly eye-opening as their struggles continue. NET has Loyola even worse at a pathetic 348. The outlier at the bottom is Fordham, which rose a bit over the past couple of weeks with large margins of victory over LIU and Albany, and keeping their Colgate loss to a 10-point margin.

42. VCU (+15 from Nov 19, +19 from preseason)
44. SLU (+12 from Nov 19, +21 from preseason)
58. Mason (+25 from Nov 19, +33 from preseason)
62. Dayton (+3 from Nov 19, –8 from preseason)
65. GW (–13 from Nov 19, +16 from preseason)
96. Richmond (+9 from Nov 19, +23 from preseason)
99. Rhody (+2 from Nov 19, +13 from preseason)
112. Bona (+6 from Nov 19, +10 from preseason)
124. Davidson (–2 from Nov 19, +21 from preseason)
141. Duquesne (–27 from Nov 19, –31 from preseason)
182. St. Joe's (–31 from Nov 19, –73 from preseason)
219. Fordham (+52 from Nov 19, –37 from preseason)
252. La Salle (–24 from Nov 19, –51 from preseason)
289. Loyola (–110 from Nov 19, –191 from preseason)

7 in top 100 is good
