Exactly why those teams aren’t going to the dance without an autobid too. The A10 is at most a 2 bid league and chances are at least one of the 2 is VCU or Dayton.
not because they did anything special in the OOC. they're good so they gave themselves a chance with a tough schedule, but lost too many.

it is funny though ...
end of the day with a wide range of schedules, the top half of the A10 are all pretty close in NET ranking.
anyone here sure we're better than Dayton or VCU? they played much better schedules so they lost a couple.
with our soft schedule and more wins, our NETs are very comparable.

looks to me like most other A10 team besides VCU and Dayton played similar schedules as UR.
Do we want to be more like other teams in the A-10 or more like VCU and Dayton?

do you think SLU is that much better than VCU or Dayton?
VCU and Dayton have fun schedules. but it resulted in losses. if they scheduled more like SLU did, they'd probably have top 25 NETs too.
"scheduling tough" isn't always the only answer.

There always seems to be a question of whether analytics scale.

If you play a team that is 10% better than your current opponent, will your performance drop by 10%?

Maybe for some, but not for me. This is the worst home schedule I can remember in my decades coming to games, and my poor attendance this year definitely correlates.
I don’t disagree, I considered not renewing my season tickets.

My point is purely that few people want to watch a losing product, so the schedule is trying its darndest to solve that problem.

We don't have to schedule tough. I wouldn't call what we have done nearly every year until the past 2 years scheduling tough. I would call it scheduling smart. For whatever reason, the past 2 years we stopped doing that. And you are fooling yourself if you think an A-10 team can ever trick the committee into thinking they are deserving if they have a good NET with a 300+ OOC SOS.

Their SOS is terrible, even worse than ours. But they're 10–1 and dropping huge numbers of points, so I assume their efficiency metrics are really good.
I don't see how their SOS could be worse than ours. They have played 3 top 100 teams, Santa Clara, Stanford, and Grand Canyon, and a 4th, San Fran, at 115.

We’ve played 1 Q1, 1 Q2, 4 Q3, and 5 Q4. SLU has played 0 Q1, 2 Q2, 3 Q3, and 7 Q4.

Both schedules are terrible overall, so it’s kinda splitting hairs, but the NET SOS says ours is 313th and theirs is 338th.

Adding in Charleston Southern at #207 may not have too much direct impact on our SOS before conference play starts. SLU only has D-III Principia left in OOC, so that won’t count against them.

I prefer the more simplistic RPI.
As do I. I know RPI was flawed too and I am not a big analytics guy, but you can see how easily teams game it. I think for the first couple of years, maybe it was better, but now teams have figured it out and manipulate it with ease. It is one of the reasons scheduling for good mid majors like us has become problematic.

Certainly a race to the bottom of SOS between SLU and us. How to see who can schedule the weakest? I see you one crappy game and raise you another crappy game.

Plenty of other A-10 teams scraping the bottom along with us, like Mason, Joe's, and Loyola, but none of us can compete with Fordham. Only Miami of Ohio has a worse schedule than them in all of D-I.
