We should move to the Patriot League

The move for football made sense. FCS is far behind FBS and depleting our athletics to try and fund football with NIL at the expense of all our other sports makes no sense. Then think about the teams who left the CAA and who joined the CAA after that. Lastly, with W&M and Villanova joining Patriot League for football makes it now a better conference than CAA. It’s actually quite a solid conference with potential to be very good.

For basketball or any other sport, it makes absolutely no sense. We play at a high level in A10 and should take pride in that. Even being in the A10 goes our university great exposure and opportunity for big games and fan support.

Patriot League for basketball would effectively be the nail in the coffin for UR athletics. It is the ultimate signal of giving up. Donations and fan attendance will all decrease. Plus, there’s no guarantee that we would actually be even good in the PL lol. Like I said above, we’d probably finish around 5th in PL this year.

Plus there would be no more excuses that anyone in admin or PQ can make after losing in that conference. Can’t blame academics, not playing like minded schools, NIL, etc. The Patriot League would actually expose how bad of a coaching job Mooney has been doing recently.
I am not sold on the Patriot league football at all. Huesman and Mooney both fail in winning consistently or trying to win championships. We somehow lose key games that cost us big time.

2 separate points. Patriot League for football in 2026 is better than CAA. If the Patriot league also removes some of its self imposed restrictions, I think it has potential to be the top conference in the eastern time zone.

Huesman is not a good coach and will continue to be a bad coach irrespective of which conference we’re in.

not sure Coach Huesman belongs in the same discussion as Coach Mooney...granted he really struggled 2017-2019, but post COVID 2021-2024 was coming off of two CAA Championships and three FCS Playoff appearances...granted the CAA became watered down with unbalanced schedules, but he won the games he should have to earn the Championships and Playoff bids...

however, like Mooney I believe he is struggling to adjust to the new era in college sports...his UR squads have been decimated by the Portal in the past two years...he is an old school type of personality...the Patriot League seems to be full young and upcoming coaches with ideas and personalities that are better fits for today's environment...believe he has to adjust in order to succeed in the PL which I believe is a perfect fit for UR football...best FCS conference east of the Mississippi and much closer to old old amateur model that UR is comfortable with...

Go Spiders!

The future isn’t bright for either football or basketball. The coaching staff isn’t keeping up with the changes in their sport.

Huesman and Mooney both need to go. Their better years are way behind them. They aren’t adapting to changing college sports at all

Agree wholeheartedly on Coach Mooney, but believe Coach Huesman has earned more than a year to demonstrate whether he can adapt to the PL and the Portal/NIL era…

Yeah, one could reasonably argue that Huesman is recruiting TOO WELL for the Patriot League. Instead of staying, developing and becoming juniors or seniors, our best players stay for a year or so and then head off to FBS.

We would have dominated the PL had everyone from the 2023 and 2024 teams remained at UR for the 2025 season. Not so at all for Mooney and the A-10.

jeez, it's not new anymore. yeah it evolves, but what's to figure out? you learn pretty quickly where you stand financially if a target you prioritize and offer chooses another school at your level or lower.

He’s stirring up another excuse for his decades long failure
My question was more for 32 and why he said hint and posted that video in this thread. 32 seems to have some connections so I was curious if he would expand.

Is the hint that we’re going to the Patriot league for basketball (I sure hope not. That would be the end of UR athletics if that were the case)? Is the hint reaffirming Queally’s statement that we’re being materially outspent as an excuse and Mooney will stay another year? Is the hint that we’re going to bring in more NIL dollars from donors and house settlement funds to better compete with the top of the A10 next year?

Just curious if he would expand on that.

Pretty much exactly what I was gonna say.

I am never a fan of the hint nonsense. Either keep quiet and say nothing or share something interesting.
