This is the correct take. There will always be a some attrition rate because players will want the NIL, and the chance to play a higher level, but I think it is higher now because of the coaching. Has there been a player who has publicly supported Huesman? On the basketball things, say what you want about Mooney, his players both current and former seem pretty loyal and publicly supportive of him. He has not had any player transfer up that I can recall except a couple of grad transfers.
If we ever want to have relevance in FCS football ever again, what needs to happen is:
1) We hire up-and-coming coaches who can achieve success quickly (3-4 year span) before moving on. Hope to find the next Curt Cignetti who uses Richmond as a stepping stone to FBS.
2) In term of our recruiting, lean into the fact that a player can get developed here before transferring to play at a higher level (like a Kobie Turner, Aamir Hall, Malik Mustapha, Tyler Funderburk). Hope we can get 2 good years from them at UR.
3) Be good at recruiting transfers, especially transfers who are talented at lower FCS levels and playing at Richmond would be a step up.
