Transfer Portal

Used to go to college for an education, which if chosen wisely, would set you up for life.

Now it is to play "amateur" sports, too often for short term NIL gain, but long term pain.

Somehow feel we are failing at teaching long term vision, commitment, and a host of other life6 guiding principles.

Sad as hell.
You don't really need NIL if you do what the Ivies do, and set the men up with "Good Summer Jobs"

If you have the ability to provide a student athlete with a paid summer internship, I recommend calling the Athletic Department and letting them know.

I think Friday’s Liberty Bowl showcased the stark contrast happening in college athletics. Navy beats Cincy 35-13. Navy led by QB Blake Horvath who will be a Navy Pilot was the player of the game. He has been outspoken about the portal. He questions how can college teams call themselves “a brotherhood” when 20 team members leave for the portal each season.
On the other sideline Cincy was without several players who were preparing for the draft. They were also missing QB1 Brendan Sorsby who will be attending his third school next year after signing a letter of intent to Texas Tech with reports he will receive upwards of 5 Million in NIL.

Not sure “we are failing at teaching…”

Me thinks that the allure of $$$$ has overtaken the willingness to be be educated and learn.

As you mentioned, it definitely is a short term gain. I guess many or most of the athletes are grabbing what is thrown in front of them while the taking is good.

Not sure what the answer is, but my thinking is the new world order of NIL and portal is here to stay be it positive or negative.

Of course some players are being cut. This is about sports not about going to school to learn something other than sports. The only valid point is that this professional league is not handled like a professional league should be handled. There is a reason that anarchy doesn’t work and that is basically what exists in the major college sports.

Funny how P4 bashes G6 and FCS, yet gladly takes the players those so-called sub levels of college football developed for them.
