Tanner returning

I’d see Harper first crack at the 2 and Kaiser at the 3.

We'd be a very different looking team with these three. But not sure the Coach would know what to with them. That group certainly shouldn't be running the Mooney 1990's offense but do we really think he'll change it?
Sure to weave until next coach.

Harper hasn't shown me enough to make him the starting SG for us next year. Does he deserve a shot sure, but we've got 5 more slots to fill, I want a proven 2 guard coming out of the portal. If Harper beats out a proven player, than great, but going with him as our starting SG is a huge risk.

Any successful CM team needs 2 really good starting guards.

Agree 97. We need a stud guard in the portal. I will remain hopeful, because off season is our only time for optimism lately.
Good start with Kaiser, but still a ton of work to do. Harper has potential but not a sure thing.

FWIW, WH starting was more about Kaiser playing the 3 and CT coming off the bench for me.

If given the option I would rather start Harper than CT.

If we land a player at either SG or SF then slide Kaiser to the other spit but for now for me WH>CT

Agree 100%. If we roll out Tanner as our starter, I may have an aneursym.

But in Mooneyworld, Tanner is a senior, who started the past 2 years, whereas Harper is a sophomore, who never started, and played some irregular bench minutes last year. Who do you think in Mooney's mind has a better chance to start right now.

This is one of the more frustrating aspects of Mooneyball and I say that knowing there are lots of things to be frustrated about. In a sane world, there's very little chance that a program would return a starter to a team that was as poor as ours if they had middling to poor stats. In our world, there's still a possibility, if not a probability of this.

Soooooo nowadays every player either portals or announces running it back. Nothing from Jrob or Harper? Just seems odd. Would assume they would have portalled by now if that was the case.

portal window is 4/7 - 4/21
feels like it's been longer, but we're only halfway done.
but I agree ... if you're going to transfer it's likely you would have already.

unless there are changes to the roster that change your mind (like bringing in a guy that takes your playing time).

It could depend on who we bring in. If we add a couple stud guards with size, I could see Harper being concerned enough about playing time that he wants to explore other options. Same with JRob with non guards. It is possible neither wants to transfer down, and is hoping they can still make a good impact here, but we should definitely be looking for more impact players and better fits in the portal.

On one hand, the way the portal is set up, you would be foolish not to enter your name into it. On the other hand, if I had a kid who was good enough to play D-1 athletics, I would hope that I would have instilled the value a 4 year college experience, commitment to team and a degree in my child.

The portal has made a very "me" generation of college athletes, not a great thing in a team sport.
