Spiders No. 19

The early starting lineup guess was

1 - Sweney
2 - Ullstrom
3 - Simon
4 - Doogan
5 - Dewey

This award watchlist seems to mirror that guess. Regardless, it is nice to see a wide array of preseason hype for the fans to enjoy and the ladies to ignore.
Agree and what I was thinking too for awhile. Only difference is maybe Richards is a starter but I think this line-up gives us the best balance of offensive and defensive talent with size.

Most intriguing mid-major
Voepel: Richmond Spiders

How far might the Spiders get in the NCAA tournament? They have made five NCAA appearances, including the past two seasons when they went a combined 57-13 overall and 33-3 in the Atlantic 10. Last season, they beat Georgia Tech in the first round for the program's first NCAA tournament victory, then fell to eventual Final Four team UCLA. With standouts Maggie Doogan and Rachel Ullstrom back for Richmond, perhaps a Sweet 16 trip is possible. Watch for how well the Spiders play in two big nonconference games vs. Texas and TCU in November.

JOC article on the hype for the Lady Spiders

I realize that there aren’t many subscribers to the RTD, but if no one subscribes then we will have even less coverage of the team.

My favorite part of the article is this quote from Sweeney:

“Obviously that was a great accomplishment, a testament to what this program has been able to do,” junior point guard Ally Sweeney said of the preseason ranking. “It doesn’t really mean much just yet. We have to prove that was an accurate ranking, so we’re just working and doing that every day, little by little.”

Spiders fall out of the AP Top 25 after the Texas loss, checking in at #28. Saturday's opponent Columbia got a handful of votes to check in at a tie for 34th.

So we get an easy victory over W&M and a nice win over a solid Columbia squad that was getting votes last week, and we drop from 16 points to 3 points this week in the AP. Now in 32nd place.

Not sure where to post this exactly.

Roussell in Navy postgame, talking about his team's upcoming tournament/schedule:

"We want to go play the best teams that we can...A top 10 team, maybe better than that, and a top mid major that is picked to win their league."

The contrast is so stark.

For comparison, we were #19 in the initial NET rankings last year. We were 8–0 and had just defeated Oklahoma State, and were about to have our stunning loss to G'town a few days later.
