I believe Tom is an accountant by trade. From a fiscal perspective the A10 is probably the worst possible conference. You have a few teams spending “P4” money to maybe get 1 of 2 possible bids to the dance. The deck is stacked against the small conferences and spending more money while being affiliated with one is a losers bet.
Sticking with Mooney as a coach is a lazy solution. His system and recruiting methods are not cutting it in today’s college basketball. Finishing 11th or worse in multiple recent A10 seasons and losing THIS year to OOC opponents with less resources is all the evidence needed. If all Mooney needs is more money, why isn’t he at the top of hiring lists for any and all P4 openings? UR is keeping Mooney for “stability” and that means the status quo. Welcome to irrelevance.
Compare and contrast Mooney and Roussell. I have a long list of “pros” for the Women’s Coach and a short one for the Men’s Coach. It really is that simple.
