In a strange way I think the fact that all these schools opening up that could be “fits” for Roussell benefits us. There’s no clear and obvious choice. At the end of the day, there are so many reasons for him to stay as I’ve discussed several times before. He can build a legacy here and have job security essentially for life, not only make NCAAs but win there, can be top 25 here, bring in players who are top 100 recruits and can get drafted to WNBA, win conference championships, get national recognition on individual and team level, continues to feel involved in growing the attendance at the games (around 2K), be in a multi-bid conference, family likes the area.My official worry list so far.
1. Northwestern
2. Penn State (if it opens up)
3. Rutgers
4. Wake Forest (if it opens up)
5. Boston College
6. Pitt
Reasons to leave would be money both salary and school funding towards NIL and he wants to play in a stronger conference and see what he can try to do there. As far as money goes we need everything in our power to pay him like a P5 coach. This is our flagship sport, both men’s and women’s. We are fortunate to find someone who is absolutely phenomenal at his job. We should not be cheap in this regard. Give him the salary he deserves and resources to succeed. If he wants to go to a P5 school because at the end of the day, he wants to see how he can do at a higher conference, then there’s nothing we can do about that. I just hope that he recognizes that Richmond can be a power team in a mid major conference and our ceiling is as high as a lot of P5 teams out there.
