if he was here 2021-22 ... who did he recruit? is that the Noyes/Dread/Nelson class when I was hoping for Avila, Hunger or Buchanan?
or is that the Tyne, Trevor Smith, Soulis, GW3 year when I was hoping for Durkin, Reed or Ball?

This is the best news we've had in awhile. Loved him here last time, bummed he didn't stay longer, glad he is back. He should make Mooney look better.
JOC chimes in. Nobody is departing, so I'm unclear how things are shuffling. You're only allowed three primary and two secondary assistants and we already had our five.
Edit: Wait, no we didn't, we only had four this past year after Dollar shifted to assistant GM. But unless the rules have changed again, only three of the five are allowed to do off-campus recruiting, and that was Thomas, Boyden, and Gipe.

so we're not extending Moon yet promoting one of his staff members? Seems far-fetched. Powers that be would just re-extend MilkMoon.

I’m not just saying this, but was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this. He’s an excellent recruiter. Has gotten a lot of experience in the assistant role at several schools. Still very young at 40. His time at GW was not good but he got that job a little prematurely with the inexperience and high expectations at a school like GW was too much. He has learned a lot since then. I’m sure if he were presented another opportunity to be a head coach (which I’m confident he will be) that he will do a much better job. I think he can do very well at this level.
Curious if there was some discussion of this when deciding to come back to UR. Definitely glad to have him.
Now I’m not saying he has to be or should be our next coach, but if we are going to promote within then he may very well be a solid option.

difference to me is he's not a Mooney disciple. he worked here, but he's not really on the Mooney tree.

This is much better than doing a full national search for the best qualified candidate, no lets just pick from one of the 5 assistant coaches on staff. Seems smart. Lol, lol, lol.

This hiring is probably the best news for the program in a while.
However, if we strike out again in the portal it really means nothing.
I am going to be positive (as usual) and believe that he is going to bring in a stud portal class. Which I will be excited about. But again will have me look back an be super mad that Mooney was so effing lazy and set in his ways that he couldn't hire a good assistant that could land talent years ago. But that is life as a Richmond fan. Too little too late.
