Because I had a brain fart.

So yeah, I really don't see much difference between 4 and 5 then. :)
The only difference I can see between a 4 and 5 seed is if it’s easier as a 4 seed to play the winners of the lower conference AQ as opposed to an at-large. But with NCAA heavily considering geographic location when doing the brackets, it may not matter anyway. We might as well pencil in a first round match up against Maryland. They’ll love to do that considering it was cancelled earlier in the year.

Yeah, I was getting at that weaker AQ aspect in my post, but it would likely take multiple upsets for it to trickle down to the 4 and 5 seed level.

Even the 3 seed plays a solid Towson auto out of the CAA in that bracketology, so say they get upset in their tournament, a weaker team would probably slide in right there, or else into play-in and one of those teams gets moved up.

Similar story in the Patriot if Army doesn't win...a weaker auto will slide in to play the 3-seed (or bump a play-in team up to that matchup), and Towson will likely slide over to play the 4-seed and still provide a quality opponent. You'd need two of those upsets to happen in order for weak autos to be pitted against both the 3 and 4 seeds.

I'm not gonna dive too deeply into how the bus ride limit affects the possible permutations. Too much work, and most teams are within a bus ride of each other anyway.

I don't know how much they work to avoid repeats...it's tough with a limited number of schools concentrated in a few conferences. In last year's first round, 4 of the 8 matchups were repeats from the regular season.

Penn State,Army,Maryland could readily substitute for G’town. That’s considerably more likely and as easily doable and would make more sense.

My money is on a first round match up against Maryland. Committee will love the fact that we had our opener this year against them at home cancelled so it’ll be a good storyline in the tournament about having that game. Also makes sense travel wise as well.
