Maggie Doogan

Yeah. I'm not old enough to remember McCurdy (who had 51 in a game) but Doogan is definitely must see right now.
Hoss not taking anything away from Maggie or the woman's game, just wanted to add Bob McCurdy was our Men's version back in early mid70s who played with extremely bad ankles that required cortisone shots to keep him going. He was a creative shot maker around the lane like Maggie and lead the nation in scoring and yes, I am old enough to have watched him play. I regret that I live 4.5-5 hours away as I would go to watch Maggie play as often as I could.

Obviously Doogan got her 6th A10 player of the week award, but how about the first sentence of the A10 press release:

“Doogan put on a show this week, delivering one of the greatest single-game performances the league has ever seen.

The forward from Broomall, Pa. averaged 33.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists per game across a pair of victories, shooting 58.5 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from behind the arc, and 88.9 percent at the free throw line. After leading the Spiders to an 84-65 win over Fordham with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, Doogan exploded for 48 points and 13 rebounds in a 91-84 triple overtime triumph over Davidson. Shooting 17-of-28 from the field and 8-of-12 from behind the arc, Doogan’s 48 points marked the highest scoring performance in A-10 women’s basketball history and the most in Division I this season, eclipsing Iowa State star Audi Crooks’ 47-point showing earlier in the year.”

Incredible accomplishment and recognition! Crazy that in the current ncaa environment she chose to stay at Richmond when she could have easily gone to any program in the country, I am very appreciative
I think it speaks to a couple of things.
1) That a player doesn’t have to go to a “big name” program to achieve national recognition and sometimes staying at one place to build a legacy can do more than going to a bigger name program that may limit the minutes or playing style due to coaching or competition with other players. I’d argue that Maggie staying at UR has done significantly more for her WNBA aspirations and national recognition than going to a TCU or UConn and potentially having more limited minutes and production.

2) This is a resounding endorsement that national success in basketball can be achieved at UR at both an individual and team level. I hope prospective recruits can see that when considering UR vs. other P4s and also Roussell sees that he can build a national caliber type program here.
