Kenny Atkinson

*23*

Assistant coach
Carpet gym Hooper. NCAA hero. Reigning NBA coach of the year.

Interesting trade. Kenny and the Cavs pick up James Harden. Super talented, but tends to disappear in the playoffs.

Can't wait to watch how this plays out. Pulling for the original KA.

I get it's a win-now league, but trading a good 26 year old for a 36 year old half year rental is crazy.
With how college athletics are going, Darius Garland will probably exercise his remaining college years after this season so he’s really a rental too until he re-enters the draft in 2028

Not really. Garland is making a ton of money thru 2028, and I doubt they would have signed him after that. He is a good player, and his stats are mostly good, but at 6'1 he probably hurts you a little on defense, he turns the ball over too much, and he has been injured. I think this was a great, low risk deal for Cleveland.

Yep, its going to be quite a challenge for Kenny. But if he can use him for a year and pull of a finals appearance, it will be an accomplishment. They - for one year - have as much talent as anyone in the East.

:ROFLMAO:
start the countdown to when he quiet quits on them or gets fat in protest if things aren't going well.
I hear u, but I think it was worth the gamble. They were not winning anything staying put. I don't think they are that concerned with losing Garland, and they are certainly much better post trade than pre trade.

I don't see it. Harden puts up less efficient stats. he just shoots more.
shoots worse from 2
shoots worse from 3
he's a bad defender
at least he's healthy though.

assuming he leaves after the season, maybe having cap space helps the Cavs? if they can attract someone?

Harden averages more assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks, and gets to the FT line 3 times more than Garland.

This is because he's a gigantic f-ing ball-hog that stops the space-time continuum with his endless array of jab-steps and pump fakes. Everyone else on the court reads a book, has a cup of coffee, calls home, and scrolls tik-tok while he swallows up the offense.

Maybe, but my point remains the same. They are a better team post trade, and now have the best odds along with the Knicks to win the East.

If he wins the east, maybe he can work in a 500K clause for Cavs to pay to Spiders NIL fund. Hell, Ballmer in LA is paying tens of millions for guys to work at tree companies.

But seriously, if we were serious - he would be our guy to be a figure head GM - like Steph at Davidson.

I might a bit bias since I’m a Giannis fan, but this harden deal does nothing for me. He just always folds in the big moments. Same with Donovan Mitchell to an extent. The east is wide open though so who knows

I like MItchell. not Harden.
I don't understand the NBA cap with the apron and tax space, so no idea if this helps in some other way when Harden opts out.
but they had a pretty good guard locked up for 2 more years (admittedly at a big number) who I'd rather have than 36 year old Harden with all his history. they might have won the East without this deal, and been better off long term. Harden's a coach killer.

You are a lot higher on Garland than Cleveland was.

1.They were only 13-13 with him this year, 18-8 without him.
2. He is only 6'1, so he did not fit well with 6'3 Mitchell.
3. He makes way way too much money the next 2 years.
4. His ongoing injuries and availability were frustrating them.
5. There is no way they would have won the East without this trade.

like I said, I don't know Garland. don't watch Cavs. I'm more down on 36 year old Harden than up on Garland. there's a reason this is Harden's 5th team in 5 years. but how much discontent can Harden cause in 4 months? he'll probably be on his best behavior. so maybe this works well for the Cavs.
