Game Thread - vs Furman in Orlando - Thanksgiving morning 11am - ESPN2

Hard to believe a team that missed more than half their foul shots, had one guy make 5 3's from almost the same spot, and had a frosh guard (who is really pretty good) score 27 points, is going to win their conference, unless their conference is really, really weak.
It seems to me that teams have been killing us with three pointers from the corner for years. Not sure why that is still not being addressed.
But wait, Ijust remembered, he's still the winningest coach in school history. Sigh.
Their conference is really, really weak. We could probably throw a couple more really’s on there too.

Any team scouting us should note 2 things.

1) we can’t beat a zone
2) we do the Flying Dutchman on 3’s. One pump fake and your defender is in another area code.

I will continue to refer to him to all family and friends as the losingest coach in school history. I advise others do the same

Both W+M and Furman have good shots at winning their conferences. I don't think either are favorites right now, but they are top 2 or 3 in their conferences for sure. That doesn't mean they are good teams, haha. Though we will get to see how W+M does against some more A10 competition in the next few weeks.

If you were hoping for a post season, this season was over before it started haha. Not sure why/if anyone thought we would somehow be an NCAA team this year. We were one of the worst teams in the country last year.

we made a big leap compared to last year, games are actually exciting. Team is exciting to watch, I like our players
I was hoping for a team that could pull out close games against teams you SHOULD beat. Nothing about the tournament but we just lost to our first opponent who was barely under top 200 in kenpom. Seems like it’s just like last year but Mooney can win the pillow fight games

I don't automatically assume he would coach the same way Mooney does. If he becomes a good coach, why does it matter where he came from or who his head coach was?

Who did Bill Dooley play for? Under the logic in the reply, he should have been a great coach.
I agree Wood...with Geriot's and Chu's NBA pedigree and Hovde's FL stint...I wouldn't expect them to be tied to Coach Mooney preferred style of play...however, after 20+ years of Coach Mooney, I hope when that day comes we start over fresh!

Go Spiders!

So far - very early I know - but Hovde looks like the best of the three. But very early, but Hovde has some good experience as San Fran and Florida, and very quickly able to convert it on the court with likely a miniscule NIL budget.

I am so sick and tired of EVERY tv announcer saying "Mooney is the winningest coach in Richmond history" like it's some extraordinary record. I did the math; Mooney could have averaged a staggering 12 wins per season and still be the winningest coach we have had (240 vs Tarrant's 239).

That's TWELVE WINS PER SEASON....let that sink in

I Vote that every time they say it, they also have to say he is the losing coach as well.

Having any success at Columbia is very impressive. If he does well there, I can see him quickly moving up.

Winning percentage is the best indicator in my opinion. Tarrant and Beilein lead the way there.

Thinking back over the past 20 years, we've had these " end of the game/end of the half" problems countless times with the exception of the TJ Cline years. Can't ever seem to get a good shot off ( or any shot at all). WHY? please some of you former players and coaches please enlighten this old layman who doesn't know spit about basketball other than watching my Spiders play for 60+ years.

At least no one stepped out of bounds...yet. That was a new dynamic last year.

The 2017 a10 semifinal against VCU would like a word with this statement
